No Sandy that's over 500 FPS needs a pal . Neither really be best / kill a coyote just sting . That's why I suggested under 500FPS ( feet per second) no pal needed & can buy single shot for 50-60$ . Luck get a good Excaliber .

evening all, had 5 out of 7 chicks hatched in the brinsea this time...the other two were several days behind....should have waited a few days, they might have made it...all set the same time...what would have made them mature at such a different rate?
Another bull calf this morning...momma was a witch but got him vaccinated and tagged in spite of her. Tattoed 8 fullblood heifers and pulled tail hairs to send in for DNA testing, this breed requires a DNA matching for parentage verification before they issue registration papers, a real pain.
Scraped down the alleys and bedded before the rain came....supposed to be partly sunny tomorrow then rain Thursday thru sunday, again hate to grumble about rain but...lol, the hay that was so short a couple of weeks ago is now tall enough to be going down from its own weight. Hubby is getting grumpy....corn still needs to be planted and the hay....well we had 1/2 the first cutting done already last year this time.
Daughter and the kiddoes must be staying down at their place tonight.... first time since her hubby died 5 weeks ago....wish she'd have called to let me know....hard not to worry, its been quite a roller coaster ride....and I'm not sure its over yet.

What? Cutting hay in May? 4 days of rain coming? We haven't had any real rain since the snow left.
Sheesh, pennsylvania! C'mon up to the great white north, apples about to flower here near Ottawa, first cut of hay is normally early June: you are three or four weeks ahead of us for growing season. The bug season is here: blackflies are done and mosquitoes are hungry! I gotta put a goldfish in my rain barrell to eat the mosquito larvae.

Hitting BassPro in Niagara-On-the-lake later this afternoon. Coyotes showed up last night. Three. Clearly on a mission, stalking back and forth with the grown flock in the pen. The rooster was flying at the fencing from the inside, feet first, wings out, screaming. (they were all inside the pen just before lock up) when I went out with my sniper BB gun (what a joke) the coyotes took off. I checked the rooster after he calmed down, he's all good. He's fierce!!! Don't mess with his girls.

So much stress. I don't know how the rooster does it day after day after day.

Hubby plowed and disked the garden for me Sunday evening. Monday morning while I was planting I was floored by the number of coon and yote tracks in the fresh dirt. I usually have a live and let live approach to life, but I'm getting real sick and tired of these buggers stealing my food supply. I have never seen a year were the yotes were so brazen. I never thought I would come to a point in my life, were I felt joy at the death of another living thing, but I am elated when we manage to kill a yote.

yeah sandy, go get yourself a good crossbow and end it. I still can't believe they didn't come by when we were there. i bet as soon as you are armed they bugger off....

another day, another grant to edit and another set of meetings. got the garden about 1/3 planted this weekend. and about 1/4 mulched. not bad for 1 days work...i'm hesitating on putting out the tomatoes and peppers and other things already started because the last 5 years we have had a frost after the 24 weekend. so i planted the green and yellow beans, corn, indian corn, summer squash seed, carrots, the second sowing of peas, lettuce (5 or 6 kinds), cabbage...basil....all seed....baking beans (3 kinds) and sunflowers.

My office STILL is off limits to me....it still reeks. gah. so annoying. then tonight to drop off the custom duck hatch. 26 muscovy ducks. :-) cute little buggers, definitely messy, and i didn't realize they have quite the claws on those feet!!! so they'll go to their home and i might have room under the brooder for all my chicks that just hatched too! cornish, wheaten ameraucanas and easter eggers. i'll be keeping a few of the ameraucanas..but the rest are all spoken for and will probably head out the door this week some time. whatever is left will go to the wyoming sale on sunday. Unless it's pouring rain, then i'm a wuss. LOL. (we could use the rain....but i hope it doesn't!).

okay, off to see when my office will be habitable again....and then call and find out what day i made the vet appointment for (i have 2 days marked on the calendar...dumb dumb)....and then my weekly call the surgeon to find out about the CT/lack thereof and injections/lack thereof.....
and then a fun filled day of meetings WHOOHOO! have a great one everyone!

oh, eggs taking longer in the incubator is probably because of a cooler spot in the incubator...if the incubator gets opened to candle or something sometimes the edges of the incubator are cooler or the cooler air will pool in one spot and then they get delayed.

have a great day folks!
