Good Morning!
Will the SPCA clinics not do it? Would likely cost a few hundred? That's a very tough heart sensitive decision BVF.
Really. All they will do is give a good sleep injection, extract teeth in minutes and let recovery happen in a warm cage. I would get another estimate. There's a vet in Brantford - Scotts vet clinic. I haven't been there in 5 years because we moved, but they were compassionate and affordable. We constnstly had kittens and cats dropped off on our property and I would take them in to be neutered/spayed and they would help me find homes. I would pay about $50-$75 for each animal that showed up. Once a litter of 5 showed up and I paid $100 for shots and all of them fixed and homes found. A lot can happen in 5 years, but maybe worth a call? Just thought I'd suggest.
There really should be non-profit vet clinics accessible to everyone. Well, then vets would be out of business I suppose. Anyhooooo
Crap. Somehow I ended up with 10 new chicks. How does this happen? I have 6 BSL's and 4 RSL's. (Pullets). Four left our coop yesterday. 2 went to a forum member and 2 layers to the auction. I have 2 more to get off to the auction but I think I'll keep 1 of the 2 around for the summer because we need the eggs.
Yesterday I had a rock sit in a nesting box all afternoon and she's still in there this morning. It's one of the boxes that never gets used (they seem to all fight over 1 or 2 despite the 10 available) so I suppose we'll see how serious she is by end of the day today. Two eggs that were in coop at end of day I gave to her at lock up and she purred her throaty noise and rolled them under her. Egg sitting might be short lived. Wouldn't be the first time I've had one I thought was going to go broody and before you know it they're out being free again lol.
It's going to be sunny (apparently) and warm today. Drive safe all those going to Mt.Forest and don't buy too much and happy successful selling for all the vendors!!
There was ducklings at the auction yesterday. I picked them up, cuddled them and gave them each a chest rub. No one knows how hard it was to not take them home!!!
I had Lou outside last night going over the coop and pen expansion. He's so tolerant :)
Constructing raised garden beds this weekend. Tomorrow afternoon out with my daughter shopping and dinner. We made a pack to not cause a scene and fall into displays laughing beyond our control. We will be adults, the adults that we are.
Cheers!!

Good Morning!
And brown nose has all of 8 teeth or something. Not like its a full mouthful!! I can see what it would cost at my vet but prices have gone up so fast sigh i would not be surprised if my vet is the same. Gah.
Feed store trip today....then out to get started on the garden jobs and cleaning and getting stuff out of the driveshed/run in that will get torn down this summer. Looks like a gorgeous day!! Hopefully tomorrow is nice for all the mount forest go-ers!!

Good Morning!
So here's our gosling. Mama goose sat on a nest, but the eggs were laid when it was cold. Two hatched on different days, one was lost and one we saved and has spent the last week in mom's kitchen.
Ps can an admin reduce this pic, i can't figure how to do it with my iphone

Good Morning!
To all those headed to mount forest-have a wonderful time!! I will be sleeping in and processing cockerels. Lol
Hubby tilled the garden for me today...i raked it out. Weeded a bit in the asparagus and strawberries. Cleaned out a coop and cleaned up some junk that needed to move. The one trailer coop is ready to move away from the driveshed that will be torn down. Got dirt into several flats for planting tomorrow. Found the roll of fence that will replace the garden fence. Feed run...usually is a half hour or 45 min trip...well nitwits with trailers blocking the entrances for absolutely no good reason meant 15 min wait to get into the parking lot! Then they didnt even buy anything! And on the way out a truck with huge camper trailer parks on the shoulder right across the exit...driver jumps out "i will just be a minute!" ....15 minutes later.....gah....some people....AND they bought a 2kg bag of catfood. As if they couldnt walk 10 more feet...i had 14 bags of feed...waiting....wanting to go home.....seriously!!?? So a 45 minute trip turned into almost 2 hours!! Store owners apologizing profusely....not their fault! Anyways. Beautiful day. Having a bonfire tonight. Enjoying the weather. Have a great evening everyone!!

Good Morning!
Good Monday Morning
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Weather was sunny and cool. Perfect for the load of work done outside this weekend.
Got under the deck blocked off from the girls. It's their go to. Problem is they
under there and I'm anticipating smelly deck issues middle of the summer. We also took the opportunity to clean it out - which we never did since we moved in here almost 5 years ago. You know how it is, out is sight, not a priority? The stuff people keep blows my mind. Duct work. Siding, shovels, stones, balls, metal poles and all jammed so far back I can't imagine them ever retrieving should they require it. Anyways loaded an entire dump trailer full of garbage. Wow eh? So now it's all clean and blocked off.
Started the raised beds, got 5 of the 7 built (one needs an extra adjustment to be level). Next weekend will be finishing them up and adding the landscape fabric and a few climbers to one. The plan is Mother's Day weekend to get most of the items planted. It looks like my remaining 2 lavender plants didn't make it through this winter. I'm going to give it a little bit to see if it comes back. The good thing about raised beds is I can put a winter covering on the ones that need to protected, like my lavender.
Barred rock retired from sitting on eggs. Which is a good thing at this point. 51 babies (we lost one to human error yesterday) is a lot right now.
I ordered some saddles for my girls. I'm down to 8 layers and some of these girls are clearly favourites. I always thoug it was silly and didn't think I would ever go there, but seeing bare patches on backs on a few hens made me realize it was silly to not protect their backs. I don't have time right now to make them any, but this lady makes them and it's an offer I couldn't refuse. $7/saddle and free shipping. YES PLEASE! This way I'll have a 'model' to duplicate as well when I have time to sit at the sewing machine. Saw these eggs on an Ameraucana Facebook page yesterday - beautiful. Well I'm off to the rodeo (coops) and then a very long work day. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning!
Ahhhh Sandy, I wish we had as little junk as you have. I admit i am a bit of a "recycler" (the chicken wire and other fencing i get from the dump means i'll never have to buy any). But my dad, sheesh, he grew up in Germany after the war, and came to Canada with $20, but c'mon, he hasn't been on skis in 30 years, and you wouldn't be allowed on the hill with them them today, so can we toss them? The junk i've tossed when he wasn't looking, truckloads every year. If he had good taste he could have an antiques shop, but this pressboard junk from the 60's? Mom and dad went to an auction sale last weekend, he bought two glass china cabinets and stashed them at my sister's place, and mom came back with two boxes of dishes. An old friend died and we got a 12 year old Chrysler minivan, low mileage but needs bodywork, he won't give it away, so it'll sit there until it is real junk. Old house: they live in front, us in back. Sheds full of old construction supplies scavenged from jobsites (he's a retired electrician). C'mon dad, go to Germany again, then i can toss more stuff out....

Good Morning!
What really gets me is the dump site in the woods. All kinds of glas, shingles, tires, construction stuff, fencing, two halve trucks (not off the same one) from the guys living here in the 40s to 90s. I understand the dump is 20min drive away... but that doesn't mean you can just dump the stuff in the ravine!!!
