Turkeys and geese have 80 chromosomes each...so if they pair properly....maybe....i have never heard of it though.
pheasants x turkeys yes, pheasant x geese yes, peacock x turkey yes....

sandy, processing turkeys is easier i find, they're bigger.....more feather to grab for plucking, and more room inside for cleaning ;-)

"what do people out there know about ground source (geothermal) heat pumps? like em? hate em? we are at the point where we need to do major HVAC work, so nows the time to decide once and for all."

A buddy rebuilt his house (lifted it with a new foundation) including major insulation so minimal heat needs. It heats fine except at -30 but his hydro bills are friggin crazy. $400 - 800 and up per month all the time. A "pump" consumes electricity. Best idea i've seen is a heat pump connected to a hot greenhouse. Greenhouse full of black rocks or water barrels as a heat sink. Again the pics didn't say where it is (it might have been colorado) and may not be good at -30. A Newfie has a business making a solar furnace of tin cans

I am going to add one of these to my place as its a good fit for during the day when we're gone.
I can't keep up with the dead trees here, so wood works for me. Pellet stoves can be run on cherry pits, as well as wood pellets.
Wood is a lot of work and sucks if you have to buy it, but bring on a power failure/ice storm and we're ok. "Global Weirding" will bring lots more wacky weather so keep that in mind.

HAHAHA it was the young goose but they are both laying in the same nest and well they'll kill trying to take them LOL. Heck I almost got it last nignt trying to collect chicken eggs that are laid behind that nest box. I think momma goose has gone broody and hopefully young goose chooses a new spot.

28 days for turkey eggs and 28-35 for goose? its a possibility. I cant imagine what it would look like... a turkey with webbed feet that swims? a goose with a beard and a fan that gobbles? hahahahaha!

Yes Sandy turkeys are so sweet it's difficult to process them. Hubby had to leave when I did the last 2. I don't like it but the meat is wonderful. They can be very frustrating and way more work than chickens. I gave up on free range (we have 5 acres) after I caught up to them stopping traffic at the corner to chat to the good folks in cars. They sail over fences too and we keep going higher. We have some now that are designated pets and it's getting silly LOL!

KB have you tried trimming the flight feathers on ONE wing to keep your Turks grounded . Worked here when I kept the bronze even the young birds . Baron I see for using less electricity in Ont cause of mild winter & conservation we are being rewarded by an increase in our hydro costs . Go figure .
