This pm sucks!
Too true. I discovered this animal had tried to attack a neighbour ladies pug on the leash that afternoon when out for a walk. She'd been able to grab her dog up. I wonder if because the dog had been skunked the owners booted it out awhile ago to desmell???? I can understand a wild predator trying to get a meal that's nature but when people are irresponsible that just gets me. I shudder to think what could have happened if some of the neighbours young grandkids had been around!
And thanks everyone I know you all get it and many of you have sadly been through it.

So I thought it was time for an update photo.
They are "taking the air"" this morning and enjoying their hay.
These are the 3 girls who were very seriously injured. They are all doing well and the 2 little pullets are laying. Mighty Mouse (thanks Dominion Link) is keeping everyone in line. Due to their injuries they will likely never go back with a rooster but will have a nice summer pen to themselves. It was helpful that these 3 had started hanging out together before the incident. They are "taking the air"" this morning and enjoying their hay.

Yes it's not a good life for a bird on her own. In fact we only had Mouse in the house for the first night fully expecting her to be gone in the am. Next day she looked better and went straight back to the coop with the 2 injured pullets. A more normal situation and don't have to re acclimatise or integrate. The get visitors from the other birds through the wire too!

They look pretty hale and healthy to me - hard to believe that they were badly injured.
I like the "portico" over your pop-door! I think I need to do something along those lines over our pop-door too. There's enough of a gap between the coop wall and where the cover over the run starts that during significant snow falls, particularly when it's windy, it manages to accumulate on their ramp. Yesterday it was even piling up inside the pop-door. It's surprising how a little 1/2" gap can let in quite a bit of snow.
My hens do not like snow at all, so once the snow started accumulating on the ramp, I'm sure they high-tailed it back into the coop and stayed there.

Yeah, the laymen out there say oh well you lost your chickens. It takes another crazy bird person to get it and understand how invested we get in these silly creatures.
