I believe that locally (Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec) it is known that Cougars/Eastern Mountain Lion are around. I have seen several different pics of the big cats on peoples trail cameras. Like Bert and others have mentioned they may be using a "head in the sand" approach...for better or worse.Skinny rooster wrote: ↑Sat Mar 03, 2018 11:38 amDon't pay attention to a government official sitting in an office downtown somewhere, I mean I am sure they are telling the truth when they say there are no wild animals near the water cooler or in the cafeteria where they get their morning croissant but it's different for us.
We have always had bobcats, I am an hour north of Ottawa so it wouldn't take much for one to travel to surroundings areas. Especially now since most people don't hunt anymore they would be less harassed. They say a bobcat is mostly a giant cat, so I don't think it would be powerful enough to pull a sheep up into a tree. A bear could but I have never heard of a bear doing that, usually they cover their kill with dirt a leaves. My friend had two full grown cows killed, they were clawed to death and yet people tried to tell him it was wolves. I guess they had a toothache that day. Plus usually wolves go for the calves, this thing was ambushing full grown beef cows.
Another warning, foxes also make those cries when they get rabies.
Don't worry about the "not a bobcat" same thing for me as the smarty pants government workers say I have a "not an eastern Sasquatch" will they never learn???
Some of the cats could certainly be escaped exotic pets but I think that the big cats have been around for 30+ years.
