Hey, Sandy, since you're wearing a hat with deer fly strips on it already, try applying some Bronco fly spray to your hat as well - it's supposed to work for deer flies according to the description on the spray bottle LOL.

Hot Hot and more Hot Weather

In the past we had a lot of bats and swallows. We only have a few swallows and I haven't seen a bat this year at all. I don't know what happened to them or where they went. My husband put up a bat house a couple of years ago to try and lure them back, but it hasn't worked yet. I sure don't like deer flies, they are nasty. We haven't had them this year yet, but we have had a lot of black flies and those little suckers that you can't really see, but they make you very itchy, until you can't stand it any longer and have to go in the house. They actually come through the screens too.

We had another thunder storm this morning for a couple of hours. Started at about 5:30am. The wind reminded me of snow storms in the winter because of the whistling howling wind. It was scary, a lot of lightning and not a lot of rain, as I thought there would be. They have been having tornadoes all out west and in Manitoba yesterday. It is 34 here today with wind, but it is a hot wind and a breeze is better than none. You might all be getting rain soon with this heat wave across Ontario. Just hopefully no wicked storms.

My chickens and ducks have been very quiet the last couple of days, hiding from this heat. Most of them stay in the coop until the evening . I don't blame them, as it's exactly what I have been doing. I think that I will go sit out on the patio by the pond soon. We get shade there in the late afternoon from the trees. I have to cook on the fire, as I didn't yesterday, so it has to be done today. I cook over Applewood.

yup im an arm flaler myself and I know i live in my own little world but its okay, they know me here. ;-)

I should get me some of those sticky pads! whats your homemade bugspray? we tried a few concoctions a few years back but it was crazy expensive and not very effective, we smelled great though! lol. and now we have a whole box of essential oils.

I really wonder how in the past, especially how the Native Americans delt with these blood suckers?
Hey Al,

Clove essential oil rectified. Has to be the rectified for some reason. Cinnamon bark essential oil. Ratio is 10:1 you don't even really need the cinnamon I just find it extends the protection of the clove. I just put in my hands and rub on. It warms up a bit when on your skin but Nothing major.

Clove oil in the lab is the only oil that gives 100% repellency for 2-4 hours. And I can vouch to that. I smell like Christmas in July, but hey could be worse!!

When I am going to the beach or just don't need such an intense coverage or just a hike, I just mist it on with a bottle. At home, it gets put on by hand and put all over lol. It's nuts over here!!

Good reminder, as, I have citronella oil. I'll have to try that if needed, as I don't have cinnamon or clove oils. I spoke too soon when I said the mosquitos weren't bad. I guess because of our cool nights they weren't, but this change in temperature, hot nights and all the rain we have had just perfect conditions for them to hatch. Chased into the house last night and tonight

I just got my new modem with built in router, so I didn't have internet today to check out the temp. My husband had to exchange my modem for the built in router one At 9:36pm it was 27 feeling like 30 here. It is so hot. Well, tomorrow is suppose to be a bit cooler with a high of 25. We shall see.

Bunch of wimps! Wee wee wew its too hotwew wew the mosquitoes are bad wew wew its too cold... Gotta shovel the snow wew wew.

I see the Amish farmers around me... Dressed head to toe with a straw hat on... No bug spray i'm sure. I never hear them complain.

I love the heat! Dunk my t shirt in the water barrel.. Work for an hour...back for another dunk. Spent yesterday doing yard work.. The yard is as good as it gets.

See you all this aft...

Yes, I have citronella candles and a citronella plant on the patio. Seldom have I used any sprays for bugs, but I might try my essential oil that I purchased a while ago.

I like the nice weather, but not hot and humid with no breeze, as it zaps all the energy out of me. That is a good idea baronrenfrew dunking your shirt In the water. I have also wet my hat and all my clothes sometimes. Sure helps to keep cool. Right now it is 27 feeling like 31. The high is suppose to be 28. Changed from their forecast of a high of 25. It feels not too bad in my house right now, but this afternoon when the sun starts to shine from the west, my house heats right up. It is cooler out on the patio with shade from the willow trees.

My skin can't tolerate skin so soft either. I've heard bounce dryer sheets but I just can't seem to convince myself to give it a try.
