Kenyas comment just reminded me. The only reason I have Lucky and he's not in OCs freezer is because he popped up like that. I missed the initial post and a month later she bumped the ad. Scary thought!

May I also point out that you now have a really easy way to get to the classifieds by clicking on the "Classifieds" link in the picture below?
Does that help?

kenya wrote:QR_BBPOST I liked the comments in the for sale section, a lot of times that's what sold your birds .Yes you always have a few bad apples but that doesn't make the whole bunch bad. The way the old classifieds were set up got a lot more views because if you clicked on new posts it came up and if someone commented again it came right up on new posts. The way it's set up now a newbie would have problems finding it and the older ones aren't even looking. I know sometimes comments were unwanted but most times they were very nice commenting on how lovely they were or asking questions that prompted the seller to give more information which in the end sold the birds.
I know some people always make it bad but if we want to keep the membership growing the classifieds need to change and I think going back to letting people make comments or ask questions is the way to go. One of the main reasons people seek out this site is to buy and sell but if it's not obvious they go elsewhere.
Administrators and moderators are doing an excellent job, don't get me wrong, this is just my 2 cents, which is worth about 1 cent.

It's the random finds that came up in New Posts that brought me some amazing birds, I wasn't looking to buy and would have had no reason to look in the classifieds.

Well, I guess I am off to do some homework....
For this to work I need to find a solution for:
- classifieds
- events calendar
- breeder directory
- stationary
- fowl facts
Because what you tell me is that having all those things on the homepage is not enough enticement to go there.
So, to make it work, I need to migrate all functionality to the forum and abandon it on the homepage. That's the technical issue. Mine, and I am working on it.
This also comes with an unsolved technical issue. Hotmail.com, live.com and outlook.com email addresses have blocked our emails. This is an issue at registration already where we need to manually send credentials to those new members. This will mean that notifications for pms and other issues are not getting through if you have one of those email accounts. I have been fighting this issue for many years with this server already, but not succeeded. And I don't think I will either. With classifieds where they are now, the poster can change the address where to send notifications to. If we move them here, the poster needs to update the info in the ucp.
The other issue is the moderation piece. I understand that a good conversation about an ad helps selling stuff, but that requires an open topic where anyone can post anything. Depending on the load this may generate for the admin crew, we might be asking for help moderating. Maybe the original poster is taking a bit of ownership and is the first one to report stuff?
Maybe we are just worried about nothing?

I use the <quick links> a lot. Showing classifieds in there might be handy. <Classifieds> is totally missing in the top bar that is shown on every page, which I thought it used to be there? I have to go to the Home page to find <classifieds>. Have to admit I use the forum far more for discussion and lurking on other discussions (always picking up tidbits of info) than the classifieds. If I'm selling or looking to buy, I hit Kijiji or for the peafowl, a Facebook group that is specific for them where I also lurk. That being said, I can't remember a time I was successful in buying or selling anything on either Facebook group. Peafowl are my centre with the rest of the gang in the background......and I have quite the variety of background LOL. Can anyone say addiction with feathers?
I would agree that the classifieds were far more prominent in the previous architecture......Cheers!

Good idea, Epona, about adding a link to the Classifieds to the Quick Links list. I think a lot of people use Quick Links regularly. I know I do - mostly I use the Unread Posts link.

Yes it's true I use the quick links all the time, but for a newbie they wouldn't even know to use that.
Just wondering if it's possible to put the classifieds as the header for each page then no-one misses it. Still like comments being made though, a lot of times that sells the bird.
