Good Morning!

Post by goatgal35 » Sat Apr 09, 2016 7:55 am

Three weeks ago I bought eggs at an auction. I got 1 dozen of the darkest Marans eggs I have ever seen and an 18 pack with 6 Araucana eggs and 1 dozen silkie eggs. I really wanted the Marans and Araucana. I didn't really want any more silkie eggs but since they were all together, I got what I got. I now have 6 Marans, 1 Araucana, and 11 silkies. Not bad for cheap auction eggs. Fingers crossed that the one and only Araucana I got is a girl :)

BTW,
Facebook blocked me and needed my ID and real name. I get it. So much crap (predator in many forms) on there that if something happens (and it does daily) police are knocking on facebooks door.

So I changed my name to be correct and sent them an envelop showing my name from The Ontario Ministry that just arrived with my outdoor card. Nothing dangerous if it is 'leaked'. Simple solution.

Hmmm. Decisions decisions. Can't say I'd get off the hook that easy but it's worth a try! Let the barn building begin.
Just kidding.
Maybe.

Thats exactly how I learned except at the same time i was building, testing and sometimes rebuilding the incubator with eggs in there! hahaha I turned the incubator from still air into forced air just like that. hahaha I might add meticulous record keeping helped me out massively along the way. LOL

No worries Al. I'm just giving my perspective. I don't have an issue with using my real name now that I know how to block and decline people :)

Cheers!

Jim, if you had a barn, it still wouldn't be big enough. You are still in the "honeymoon" stage with birds and wanting a bit of everything (its been 25 years for me and I still get starry eyed once in a while) and you'll likely settle down and do a few things very well instead of a lot of things mediocre.

If done right with a barn it also means less mess around the house (no more chicks in the basement).......in theory.

For sure baron. I have not started incubating yet so I don't have to have chicks in the house or garage. This year is my decision year. A bunch of birds will be culled this fall or sold early next spring as I pick my main interests and learn more what makes a quality bird.

It's a fine theory Bert, I can attest to that.
Have visited a barn of a well known Poultry Person about 10 years ago and looking at all the space available to him/her, my first thought was........I would kill for space like that!!!!!!
The second sober thought...... I would kill myself, if I had space like that available to me!!!
So in the end doing less, but as well as possible under the circumstances is the "sensible" way to go. :)
