LOL....they're all hens until they crow ;-P
My bet is the bigger/longer wing feathers are girls. But just a wild guess.

I "lost" a black hen a while ago....gave up....I would see her sometimes, so knew she was a still around just not sure *where* she was hiding her eggs. Last night in the barn doing chores i hear the "mom cluck" and go searching. She was in between the stall wall and the outside barn wall, complete with 8 little chicks...likely all just a day or so old. After risking my life to get mom out (she's a fighter) i got the chicks all out, because there's no way they could scale a 4 foot kick wall, and put down food and water and mom was happily clucking along with them in tow 20 minutes later......i'll try to get some pics sometime soon.

Is this temperature ok?
Is this temperature ok?
The temperature reading is 86 degrees

LOL. My daughter asked me if she could feed the chicks grass. The smaller ones are 1 week old and the larger ones are 2 weeks old...I don't see anything wrong with feeding grass, as long as they are not eating mainly grass then they probably won't have a balanced diet...on that note...can the same be said about adult chickens free ranging....maybe they might not get all the nutrients they need...free ranging...

I wouldn't because they may not be able to take small enough pices and end with impacted crops. Bits od dandelion flower are fun for them.

When you say bits of dandelion flower. Do you mean cut the flower into very small pieces e.g., like garlic?

So there is a mix of buff cochin and lemon barred cochin. The breeder said there is alot of paperwork to transport eggs to Canada and it's expensive but she has done this. She called the cochin the Golden Retriever of chickens. Docile, calm, friendly.

I was looking at a photo of a 4 month old cochin and half the people said cockerel and the other half said pullet. The cochin was now crowing yet. Our silkie never crowed and I am guessing he was a male because he never laid an egg

I also tried getting wyandottes but no luck..
