Good Morning 2024
Re: Good Morning 2024
So since Thanksgiving weekend just flew by i thought it might be good to read a bit about turkeys...
The dietary supplementation of phytase improved growth perfor mance, nutrient utilization, bone mineral composition and myo-inositol provision of turkey poults from 1 to 21 d-old. Increasing the enzyme dose from 1,000 to 2,500 FYT/kg promoted extra-phosphoric effects by resulting in greater apparent ileal digestibility and total tract retention of dry matter, crude protein, P, and energy, which led to greater bone mineralization and concentration of plasma myo-inositol. The variation of water pH had no influence on growth performance, water intake, gizzard pH or bone mineralization. Divergent effects of the interaction between phytase doses and water pH were observed on ileal digestibility and total tract retention measurements, indicating that water pH manipulation in turkey production should be performed with caution.

Re: Good Morning 2024
Hello everyone!. Again, its been awhile. Its nearly 8pm, Thursday night... and I was on Libby, reading a book I borrowed online. So nice to be able to do that! Although I will admit... I do like to have a book in hand better. On our local towns (villages), our FB pages and buy nothing groups have lots of books to get a hold of, for real cheap, or nothing.
Well, nearly 2 weeks ago, my pea hen hatched 4 babies out of 5 eggs. The last one left was a sloshy egg... I didn't shake it for too long, lol.
I don't really hold out much hope for the survival of them, but it would be awesome if they did! From what I have read, they need to be on a screen mesh for 4 months, can't regulate their temps for 4 months, and need heat for 4 months. So, basically they are doomed. She seems to be taking care of them, and I took the roost out of her pen, so shes confined to the floor with them. They look robust so far, and we've had plenty of cold winds (west)... and the barn isn't totally draft free... and its been freezing too now. Oh well. I DID attempt to hatch earlier eggs, and after 36 days cracked two out of 3 viable... to find dead perfectly formed peachicks... with a huge yolk sac attached, not absorbed. Don't know why they died. I dry incubated, and attempted to dry hatch... but they still seemed a little sticky to me. Who knows. I certainly don't. Was so surprised to see her brood on 5 eggs she laid... and in my opinion, they were getting a little old.
crappy picture really. I took Dad out a couple days after they hatched... when they were starting to boot around, because I saw him peck at one a couple of times, so he is in the next box stall.... there IS a heat lamp hanging in there, should have put her in there, but didn't want to stress the hell out of her, by doing so. Either she keeps them warm, or she doesn't. I've had her 2 years.... and she only laid 3 eggs last year. This year, I think she laid about 15.
I've got my garlic in.. and I feel its a wee bit early, but I was ready, the ground was ready, and it was going to rain... again. It frost hard for the first time last night.... and I was going to lay down straw mulch on it, because its supposed to warm up for a week. Maybe I'll get to that tomorrow morning.... I DO want to do another round of grass cutting... for the last time?? lol. I did clean up some sunflowers that randomly pop up.. the birds were done with them, and when the current broccoli and cauliflowers are done being picked.... I will pull those plants, and the zinnia's... and take them to the corner.
The fair has come and gone, and I only worked the Friday morning. Melissa was to come.. but she volunteered for a school pumpkin patch trip with Maren.... and it wasn't too hectic on my own. I record the judges placings... staple on ribbons and put them in order nicely ( Mels job)... then calculate points.
My girls I hatched May 1st, haven't started to lay yet... but the moms (hatched Easter 2023), have quit for now. I'm getting maybe 1 or 2 eggs a day, lol. I did take 2 week old guinea keets, and 3 ee chicks to the sale.... 2 weeks ago... I put those eggs in with the pea eggs... to all hatch together. I had 5 real nice older keets I kept.... 2 were lavender, 3 pearl... but they would just end up chased by the remaining 5... who are 7 years old now... and they would end up in the manure lagoon, just like the original 27 I let loose 7 years ago, lol. I did have 7 in the spring... THEY were guinea's I plucked OUT of the pit, AND spectators... they they learned their lesson for 5 years... but 2 decided to off themselves, by jumping in. I'd like it drained/knocked down... its covered in duckweed, and looks like a nice green lawn... but to no avail.
Well, its WAY past my bedtime....I need to feed my cat and hit the hay. I like to get up around 2pm for some reason... I can't fall asleep.. read... and then its 4:30am.. the coffee is ready, Gary is out walking to the road for the paper... I get a muffin I froze for breakfast, and my day starts. Barn first... and I leave the driveway with the bus at 6:20am. Home by 8am tho... love it. I am doing an extra night elementary run after, and I don't get home until 4:30pm.. but thats WAY better than 2 years ago... 5:15pm or later.
Beans are off... and they have started corn tonight, and are at it right now. The house is peaceful, no tv on.... until Gary gets in.
Have a good night!

Happy belated thanksgiving everyone. DH made a great move at our place and got a little 9 pounder. YAY! We do not have leftover turkey for a year this time! WHOOHOO! LOL. We did the dinner at our place, and it was perfect. Enough for 1 soup making and 1 leftover dinner.
We got to see the comet the last couple of nights! really pretty. likely 300 photos or so....lol. most of mine are blurry because i didn't have my glasses. ug. We also got to see the northern lights again! That was a treat too. Twice we've had amazing shows this year that we've seen. Who needs to go and freeze in iceland to see them LOL!
May need another vet trip with the starving lab....she's scratched herself...and won't let it be....ug. she's "coned" and totally unhappy about it....i'm wondering how long it will take before we come home to destruction of the cone because when she's got it on toby and her can't play.
Looking forward to the weekend and a few days off! yay! vacation time for me. Yep, i take vacation during my favorite time of year. Love the changing colours and leaves falling and cool (cold?) mornings and warm afternoons. Not to mention deer season...bow....but i digress. Time off is definitely nice.

Re: Good Morning 2024
Friend just returned from Africa. She said the rocks are to keep elephants out of the vegetable garden and the little buildings are chicken coops. I think the larger building is a chicken coop and the last photo is of nestboxes.
