I tried dog food in my trap. No mouse. That does remind me that I shoukd probably put it in a sealed container cause there shouldn't be food in the garage... I'm still adjusting to life without Pizza. If anything came in the house he would kill it. His mom was a wild cat Animals are so smart. They know how to survive. I think we're catching the risk takers in the traps. The cautious ones aren't going in.

Haley: Jenn don't go in. It looks like a trap.
Jenn: Naw, it's fine I'll get back out by pushing down on that ramp
Haley: But what if we're not strong enough to push the ramp back down?
Jenn: We'll call for Mikey he's super strong
(Jenn goes in)
(Haley is too scared it's a trap and stays outside)
(Jenn eats the peanut butter)
Jenn: Mmmmmm this tastes sooooo good
(Jenn tries to push the ramp down and thinks, oh oh)
(Haley pushes down on the ramp)
Haley: I saved your life
Jenn: Naw, I wouldn't of died. Lolo will drop me off at Timmy's. I'll eat a couple donuts and be right back.
Haley and Jenn: Humans! (they both laugh and run merrily away)

Not sure if this is going to be a good day or a bad day but I'll take good! I accidentally ran over Einstein last night. Mixed emotions. LOL.

mornin' folks,

been busy the last little while trying to hunt up a new Welsummer roo. Picking one up today finally.
Also, a seesaw sugaring season but the sap, she floweth in abundance and its been a good yield. I only make enough for personal consumption and 'some' family handouts, lol...and it remains fun that way too...not a job, so I look forward to some quite and almost idle time tending the fire. Made about 5 gallons (yes, gallons, dammit!) and puling taps and pails this afternoon...may have to dump some sap (shuddering at that thought actually).
The girls went from maybe 2 eggs a day to almost 2 dozen in less than a week. Says a lot about light levels and the effect it has I would surmise. Nothing else has changed much.
Ordered a few chicks from Freys...Noirans...something new to try. Some sort of crossbreed and only females available, and supposed to get a really dark chocolate shell. The meat chicks arrive late June. I was goong to do 2 batches this year but the mobile processor has upped her price which takes the unit sales price up there where people start to balk. Ontario still won't let you sell chicken processed by the mobile guys/gals and thats a pity really. It is efficient and far less stress on the birds too. When will they get with the program? Honestly!
Anyway, I read rumblings about this place shutting down abd although I might understand it, it will be sad.
Feel free to email me.... kohler.innovation@gmail.com
I may actually respond, lol. :run:

The mobile lady went and got a job! Oh well.
I don't think it's just the province not allowing selling from the mobiles but people expecting cheap food and not knowing what real food tastes like. When you see $1.99lb chicken you know they're making a loss to get you into the store so until schools go back to Home EC or similar people won't understand.
I got some day old slow growth to try. I've done Barred Rocks for meat and they were good so we'll see with these.
@Kbr42 there are still 13 LOL. Active little things.

The hens are laying up a storm. It was a lazy sunny Caledon Sunday so I decided to take some shots of the cream legbars. There is still snow and ice here but not for long... Did anyone see the northern lights on Friday?

My DH and I did see the lights on friday-briefly before we both crashed. Pity if we'd stayed out another 30 minutes apparently they got really good! The photos were awesome that were posted all over the next day. I do have that aurora app on my phone that notifies me when the Kp is good-it's worth it! caught them a couple of times in the last year or so thanks to the app.

OMG poor Einstein! Congrats....although what an uncreative way to go!!! lol

I have 31 fuzzybutts in the brooder :-) My sister is fighting cancer the last 2 years and she has enjoyed hatching for me for the last 3 years now, so I got her to do another batch for me. I actually hadn't planned for it, but goodness knows we need something fun and happy right now! So now there's 31 fuzzybutts. So super cute. And eating me out of house and home of course. and growing so fast. I have done this for many years, and it still amazes me just how fast they grow! Soon they'll be moving out to the coop outside. I do like spring and all the new babies!

We have gained another stray barn cat or two possibly. He's got a tipped ear so neuter/release program. He is welcome to eat all the mice and rats he can find-i just have to find a way to stop the spraying! between my queen cat and this tom the cat spray is insane. Thankfully my 3 girls are all spayed.....there's another tom (not neutered) that has been around a few years now, and he and tipped ear do NOT get along. The other night i couldn't understand why there were cats fighting in my basement-they were actually in the window well in the other end of the house and the sound was travelling through the basement. That stopped in short order when i got the flashlight out.....And there's another jet black little panther hanging around too. Very stealthy and silent and i've only see that one a couple of times-usually the butt end going into the hay....so. looks like we're collecting barn cats. Helps with the mice and rats and bunnies, so i guess i'm okay with it. and guess i'll set up the traps and catch/neuter. sometime.

Looks like our 6 hives are all good so far! We had bees flying everywhere yesterday! the weather was gorgeous! Let all the birds out too. The ducks i got a few weeks ago have absolutely no desire to be outside. it's super strange. But i'm getting eggs now, so i'll send a bunch off to my sis and she can hatch some ducks too.

And i know, pics or it didn't happen-so i'll try to edit this post from my cellphone and post a pic. Okay, these are not all of them-but about 1/2 of them. :-)
