Anyway I was thinking about all this stuff and it really is surreal. We don't get out much at all BUT it feels weird to have people be able to tell you what you can do and where, I don't take well to orders LOL. I often had the dreaded "doesn't play well with others". I hadn't realised the massive psychological issues that could occur specially for people who are gregarious and miss their family and workmates, must be horrific for the elderly in the care facilities. We have heard more from people we don't normally hear much from since this started than previously and I guess it isn't polite to say "quit bugging us, we were out with the birds when our phone rang" - yup landline.
So I decided that this SOCIAL distancing is a very bad description and loaded with other connotations, PHYSICAL distancing would be a better description.

Exactly - I agree. Because you can still be virtually socially connected without physically being in close proximity. Thank goodness for the Internet.

Just heard on the radio a man complaining that his mother was in isolation in the nursing home and that she hadn't had a bath that day. Well isn't that a horror, perhaps he would sooner his mother was dead, instead of the staff doing their best to protect her and keep her alive. Jackass!!!

Some good info about Canada vs. US approaches to covid19 and their results.

10 days ago the US and Canada had comparable cases of infection per capita.

Now, the US has nearly 2.5x the infections that Canada does:
Canada: 103 cases/million population
USA: 244 cases/million population

Which really shows how fast the US is losing control of this.

Canada is also doing 4x as much testing per capita:
Canada: 4226 tests/million
USA: 1121 tests/million

Gotta say I feel pretty good about how we're dealing with it as a country.

I'm not sure I've ever experienced anything in my life that has divided people into 2 separate groups so quickly. I find it incredibly frustrating that there's people out there that haven't let the gravity of this situation sink in. And I'm offended that theres people who think they have choices here. You have no choice. You stay the hell home. You wash your damned hands a hundred times a day and you respect the fact that more than ever in your lifetime, your choices affect all of us. A daily bath is a luxury...not a necessity. I had a story related to me today that a 20 something year old daughter told her mother that she wasn't about to put her life on hold. What the hell do you think the whole world is doing right now?
I'm sure I sound to some like I'm huddled in a corner in a quivering mess. I am not. I have loads of respect for those that are working hard and diligently to fight this. We owe it to them to just shut it and have faith that they can guide us through this. Because our only chance is that we go through it together.

OK so I am going to get myself into trouble here but bear with me. The reason for the distancing is because we don't know what we don't know. We really don't have much good information on the virus to this point. Numbers don't really mean much unless they are related to a similar cohort. For example we don't know how many cases there actually are out there because we only test particular groups. Here in Leeds & Grenville that is "A provincial shortage of coronavirus tests means the local health unit needs to prioritize who gets tested based on their risk level.
"Testing for COVID-19 is being done daily in the Brockville area, but it’s being reserved for the most vulnerable: People in long-term care homes, retirement facilities and hospitals, as well as health-care workers and people who have moderate to severe symptoms of the virus."
If 1% of those then die that is not a 1% death rate because we don't know how many cases we are really looking at.
Currently I feel disgusted at our Healthcare system for not having supplies available to protect the frontline workers who will be caring for cases. A friends son in law is an ER Physician and that is scary stuff.
It was just reported that Ottawa Hospital was going to ration it's masks to 2 per shift! That is not accaptable infection control. Thankfully there was a whistleblower and they will not do that now.
I have to disagree slghtly with @Happy because a bath or at least a wash can prevent bedsores etc.

I think those two groups are always there @Happy we just tend to surround ourselves with people who we understand and share philosophy of life with.
When we come across the other group, namely the selfish self-absorbed uncaring group, we tend to get a bit shocked.
I remember an interview with a possibly 12year old girl, who insisted very stridently that she can do whatever she wants because "she has rights"
and I thought to myself Oh Oh, somebody forgot to tell her that her rights end when they start to interfere with my rights....
and that with rights come responsibilities...

Whether or not they are in isolation they get bed baths every day. Baths or showers are luxeries for any patient/ resident in isolation. It's sad but the truth, staffing is already short, anyone in isolation takes 5 times the amount of time to look after. Every single interaction PPE's have to be applied and removed after. Some staff are refusing to work scared they or their families may get it. Making shortages of staffing even worse and soon we will run out of PPE's. Instead of criticizing his mother not getting her bath maybe he should try putting on his big boy pants and help health care workers instead of criticizing. They are after all putting their lives on the line.

@Killerbunny , You are right, having a bath is very important, especially now. I think @Happy was referring to a previous post where someone complained that their mother, in a care facility, hadn't had her bath yet that day. Health care workers are SO overworked/overburdened already and bathing schedules will undoubtedly get pushed back because of that, but they are doing their level best.

My sentiments exactly, @kenya . I'm really disturbed at the amount of dissing going on ATM.
KUDOS to all those on the front lines, putting their own health on the line every day.
