Re: Good Morning!
this is my second or third try with guineas. I am, i must admit, fed up with them. we can't hear ourselves think in the barn! this weekend will be the decision weekend. i unfortunately have 4 males and 1 female. So....i know one of the white ones is a female, so i'll just keep the 2 white ones and freezer camp the other 3 i think. and kick the 2 white ones out the door to never go back in the barn. there's enough food around and it's easy to set up a couple of dog dishes for water for them. noisy little jerks.

Re: Good Morning!
I loved them and didn't find them too noisy BUT my turkey Toms lived in total terror even though they lived in a different paddock. They also stank! They were absolutely delicious but I don't know how to describe the meat, not as gamey as pheasant I've had in the UK.

Re: Good Morning!
We’ve had guineas for about 8 years and they sure kick up a fuss with strangers etc. But are very quiet otherwise. The Pyrenees responds to their call instantly. Great team effort. As this dog’s recall to me stinks when he is hunting or doing what he considers his job, I was trying to figure out if I could imitate the guineas alarm to get him to come to me with such speed. LOL

Re: Good Morning!
I had guineas as a teenager and I would toss my gloves at them when they squawked (in winter in the barn). This happened for a month then they were quiet around me. In other words - I taught them to shut up.

Finally got a chance to get more peanuts for the blue jays and chickadees. When I went to fill the feeders, I found that the squirrels had chewed right through my squirrel proof feeder, so that even though they’re too heavy, they can just reach in through the new holes they made. I guess the baffle I made became kind of useless once the snow got high enough for them to just jump over it. I guess that’s something to rethink since I mostly just feed in the winter anyway.

Getting back into poultry on a small scale. Kathy has my back for some Wellsummers, but I'm looking for some Jumbo Brown Coturnix Quail eggs or chicks.

Re: Good Morning!
We have had some success with installing a slinky under our bird feeder. Some still manage to get up, but mostly they give up. And let's face it, nothing is 100% squirrel-proof.Blizblaz wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 3:08 pmFinally got a chance to get more peanuts for the blue jays and chickadees.
