Good morning. We were lucky enough that the sky cleared enough to get a view of the partial lunar eclipse this am.
Lucky you! Our sky just cleared.

Do chickens like fire?

Ticks! I get horrible reactions to tick bites! The area looks like it has been bitten by a zombie and takes about 4 months to heal. I told my doctor that when the Lyme Disease vaccine comes out I'll be first in line!

Good morning thread

Post by Farrier1987 » Fri Dec 03, 2021 10:25 am

We used to have a thread like this didnt we? Frost or not, visitors coming, hens not laying, idiot children/neighbors or whatever was going on?

I can't find it, so I am starting another one. I am not a religious sort, but was raised such. Reminds me of "This is the day that the Lord has made, you shall be glad and rejoice in it."

Overcast and gloomy today. Getting six or seven eggs a day from my 20 or so birds. Got some retirees there, but some pullets started about a month ago. Light in the coop comes on about 5 in the AM, really helps I am sure. Hope it continues through the winter.

On a more somber note (and please, no one tell me how sorry you are, it picks at the scab that is forming) we lost Ranger our wonderful lab Pyrenese cross that raised the orphan goat. He was 5. started this summer to dig out of the yard. We thought we had everything blocked, but he got out on Tuesday and got hit on the road, Dam dogs and kids that won't believe you. But the circle of life continues to roll. It was one hard hit, as he was not mashed or tire tracks. The neighbor saw him on the center line and brought him home to us, then took me and Ranger and I put him out in the bush with Cleo my milk goat and others. He is with friends anyway. We miss him. Lop our other dog keeps looking through the fence for him to come back. But less each day. We are healing, but geez it hurts some times.

Cath going to her mom's for the weekend. Her mom is 87 and failing and that's not easy either.

Aren't I a one to get the morning thread off to a joyful start. But there it is. Some days are harder than others to rejoice in.

December 4th, where has November and October or 2021 altogether gone ? it was pretty hard to distinguish from 2020.... :(

No Christmas shopping happening here, so I thought I would treat myself to couple (4) books fo myself, being very careful not to order anything from unknown sources, stuck to Amazon so I would only get ONE package, no such luck, book # 1 arriving today, hard to tell where the rest of them are.

Fist nice light snow cover this morning, looks like it may stick around for a bit, looks pretty :)

Wow... its so windy today!!

Its the family christmas today.. involving Gary's sisters.... starts at 2:30pm... and here I sit, lol. We were going to have it at the legion, we had it there two years ago, booked it for last year, and covid put a stop to that. We were going to use our money we had given them last year, for this year, but covid rules suck, so we cleaned out the driveshed, and are having it there.

I usually video tape the whole christmas, but I just don't feel like it this year. I guess I'm just tired.

I sold 10 pullets and a roo to a friend, who had her whole flock wiped out by a fox. Well, NOT a friend, someone who has bought hay for a few years...anyhow, shes learned her lesson for not locking up her birds, when she wasn't around in the daytime. I told her she'd better not let anything happen to my girls, lol. I'm getting around a dozen a day, which is better than nearly 2, and no customers, but one, and a couple family members, lol.

Well, I guess I'd better go down to the shed... pick out a spot, and just sit and look dumb. Not everyone is here yet... I guess they figure, no snow... no tobogganing with the kids.... too cold to stand outside.... but the shed is cleaned out, and looks awesome!! And we have a couple heaters in there, they run on diesel.... a wee bit noisy, but not bad.

Can't believe christmas is so close!! I haven't finished all my shopping for the kids or grands yet.. and usually get gift cards for the recycling guys, the garbage guy, and the mail person, who despite me having called the post office, and requesting NO junk... I get lots of it. Even tho I left a note for her. Not sure shes going to get one or not. New person, so she won't know any different anyhow. I like being grinchy, lol.

Good morning. Too early... But not quite still dark lol. First off @Farrier1987 you can just deal because i AM going to say i am sorry bout ranger. Your heart is bigger for him being in it. And he will always be. And you will also see that I moved your post... :-)

Had one of our hunting group guys swing by yesterday to help remove an elm weed tree.... 6 trunks and a horrible tree mess less than 20 feet from the beehives. No bees or humans were harmed. :-) trees are down and now the cleanup begins today. I will be useless as always lol. But i can just barely get on the atv now!!! Whoohoo!! Still have to drive standing up but thats a step forward. Hoping physio will be allowed soon. Back to work too almost full time. Its exhausting but getting there. Have to batten down the hatches today apparently big wind coming tonight. Sigh. Ducks are thinned out and everyone settled for winter yay! Kept back a white and brown drake and 2 blue, 1 black and 1 white hens for the ducks. Cleaning out the barn as i have time and energy... And thats about it. Eggs in too much demand-will need a trip to the barn to find breakfast lol. Cant get fresher than that! Had 12 dozen go out yesterday to 1 person... She goes on cookie overboard :-) well hope the wind isnt as bad as they say. Hope you survived christmas @Bayvistafarm. And hope your leg healed up well!!! Hope everyone has a great rest of weekend!!

Large dump of heavy snow, the dogs decided it was way too messy to go anywhere, I must say I agreed.
By the time I made it to the mailbox for the paper, my boots were full of snow, so cold and squishy yuk.
Have a safe one :)

We didn't get much snow, but it sure is windy.
The chickens have been staying in the barn.
