Good Morning!

OK so the vet pharms clearly get it about vitamins. Poor Muppet (kitty) has to have vits because he's eating poorly. I kid you not they are BACON flavoured. I wondered why he took them so easily. For humans they make those sweet gummy pieces of you know what! WTF?

I totally want bacon flavoured vitamins. Though I suspect if human vitamins were bacon flavoured, there'd be a huge rash of iron poisonings LOL!

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone!! The sun is shining, but its cool. Going to warm up tho. Hung my load of jeans/hoodies out on the line, and got towels in the washer now to go out. Got to take advantage of that.

Turkey hatch is done. Did good! Out of 18 eggs, 4 didn't hatch. I had to help 3. Completely white membrane, dry around them. They had enough, JUST enough wetness inside, to fall out of the membrane, after I peeled half off, but not much. The parts sticking out of the zip were fully dry, and fluffed up, and the hole was hard/dry. Sheesh. The humidity was 75%. Those brinsea's blow too much hot air on them I think. The one little blue egg hatched. Out of an EE. She was an EO crossed with a blue wheaten Ameracauna from WLLady.... and she was bred to my very colourful mutt rooster. The chick is black. It looks funny with white poults. I think a boy. Its got pretty big feet and thick legs.

One of the poults I helped, maybe won't make it. His neck I think was crooked in there too long, was dry mostly. This morning, he is walking better, at first, he was a back flipper. Today tho... screw him up by helping him drink and stuff, and he does the backwards getaway mode.... and clearly isn't quite right. Oh well.

Had to put down an old hen this morning. She'd been failing for awhile. I'm glad I let the girls out two days ago, when it was nice... she had a good time outside, and loved it. But then would come in and huddle, with her eyes squinted. When I picked her up this morning, her breastbone was sharp. Hadn't been eating. I cuddled her, talked to her, stroked her under her eyes... and she closed them, and didn't even struggle. She was one of the first chickens I had ever incubated and hatched. I don't even know how long that is now. 5 years at least. She was small. She was cute.

I bedded down the whole entire cattle herd this morning. Gary cleaned out the big part downstairs and the cow pack last week or the week before. So.... they require MORE bedding to soak up everything. Plus its going to rain later, and in the night, and tomorrow. My neck and shoulders and sciatica or however you spell that is now screaming, so I pretty much buggered up the walk planned in the bush soon. That, and I am wore out.

Its March break, and the bus won't disturb anything I have planned this coming week. May go to Paisley and see the folks for a couple hours, or less, lol. Really HATE sitting inside and doing nothing.... and what do you talk about for an hour? The drive is the best part, lol. Why they moved so far away, is beyond me. I think to get away from us all.

And they cant make bacon flavoured people vitamins? Sheesh.
Lots of work bvf!!!

We pruned and dormant sprayed fruit trees today. I kept some of the clippings. Will do some research over lunch and see if i cant propogate them. Feed store today...then busy afternoon. Person coming for chickens. Person coming for eggs and delivery of some cabinets! Looking forward to getting those. And 8 hens going out the door...paring back. I will miss these girls...better go and get them corralled and checked over before they go. Theyre all good layers too.
Feed store first. Tons of swans flying over going north today! And the grass in the paddocks is starting to grow. Yay. Have a wonderful day everyone!!

Aargh, other people's dogs and their negligence!

Went into town this morning and returned home to feathers everywhere, chickens cowering in the shed and the outdoor turkey Tom cowering in a corner, by the silos. Several chickens missing.

Dog tracks all over...we don't have a dog but our neighbours do and they have been over before.
Unfortunately, by the time we got home, the dogs were gone and when we went to ask the neighbours they were mum on whether they were out (though they were out when we got there). So, no proof it was actually their dogs.

The hero again is Dick the light Sussex who's feathers including what was left of his tail from the last dog "visit" we're in a pile by our front porch who was found dirty and bald in the old barnyard but otherwise OK. I think he has nine lives for all the trouble he gets into but he's a quiet soul.

A few hens have come out of hiding and I hope the others missing will reappear too though there are several piles of feathers that don't bode well.

Took pictures but not sure what to do as we can't prove anything...just hoping the rest are Ok and come home safe.

Damn sorry about that Brebis. I think it's that time of year when people let them out for a "run" and they get overexcited. I would always take pics because you never know. Hope the others come back. A few of mine came back at night when the rooster began to crow again.

I second the trail cam idea. I am sorry that happened. Hopefully more reappear.....

Had a hugely busy day. After doing fruit trees decided i better get to the feed store. Got home and 2 mins later the delivery guys showed. Got that done and went to have lunch and someone wanting chickens arrived...and while they were here friends popped in. Got lunch at 330!! Guess i will have to do chores now. Lol. And dinner.

Have a great beautiful evening! What a nice day. 16c....loving it!!

That's not good Brebis. Give Dick the light Sussex some extra treats, he deserves it.
