Can you hear the screams....we are over run with Gypsy Moths. My daughter’s face, arms and chest are inflamed and covered with welts. She has the most contact with the gates and fencing on the farm and has been bitten by the damn things. Acres of fencing are covered with the little black buggers. I just put in a 200 ft rose hedge and I’m doing day and night vigilance on removing the bast#@ds as they try to inhale the new plants. No commercial spray anywhere so I’m using a mix of veg oil, water and dish soap. Along with this drought....I’m about ready to light a match to it all. 🤬🤬🤬

Here is a first for me !!!
Although I have seen their migration in Yukon I have never seen them overhead in Ottawa Valley.
For a moment I thought our neighbors have gotten a donkey (not very likely) but couldn't assign the sound I was hearing until they were overhead, a pair of swans !!!!!!
That completes my bird count for this spring :coolguy:
Trumpeters?
I used to see them a lot in northern Alberta.

Oh no, @Epona ! Can you get a hold of neem oil? it's supposed to be effective against gypsy moths, and if you spray it when bees aren't active, as in gone back to their hives, in the evening, they won't be affected at all. It's organic-approved, I think.

So I have been lazy and grumpy and more antisocial than usual and haven't been on in a while. Garden doing fine, don't think I will make fathers day for new potatoes. I like my new raised bed full of strawberries, probably about a week til some of the little green ones ripen. Making goat cheese twice a week Darn fox been cutting down my flock, have traps set. Keeping chickens inside a lot so they learn to eat eggs. Felt up my two young goats yesterday and babies kicking for Gilley, Rona I don't think is pregnant, but not 100% sure. Looked at the calendar and Gilley due Sunday.

Someone sent me a PM to make me do this. You know who you are. I love you, but don't tell Cath, it will be our secret.

Does innuendo really translate to Italian as suppository? Neighbor told me it did, but I don't think I should believe him.

well for the last few years I have been participating in the long term Ontario Health study questionaires. After a sub set of 12,000 they are doing an extended study of 250,00 participans to check antibody status for COVID-19. I was invited to participate and the privacy stuff looked good so I should receive a kit in a few weeks. I have to do 5 blood samples from fingerpricks and submit them for testing (could just let Kathleen do her broody turkey thing for the blood LOL). Personal data is removed from results but I will be able to access mine for a limited time. SOunds interesting!

i met a biologist who was watching the first wild pair of trumpeter swans in Ontario (they were in Ontario long ago)...she said she went to the nest to check if the eggs were alive and she was attacked...i said what can a swan do to you...bite? she said the swan hit her in the rib with it's shoulder and broke 3 ribs :-o After hearing that i steer clear of swans and geese because they are similar to swans  Trumpeter Swans

@Jaye I used the 50% veg oil, 50% water and tbs of dish soap. Suffocated the buggers. Putting duct tape, sticky side out on our poor oak trees that are under heavy attack. The snow this morning didn’t fizz on them.

Gypsy Moth Management Guide I used duct tape at chest height and vaseline. The caterpillars fall off the tree and can't cross the vaseline to go up and eat again.

:-o my brother saw a wild peacock walking in the woods at his house in Caledon yesterday. Can they survive in the wild in Caledon?
