Glad you guys made it safely home, and had fun on your travels!! Always a catch up at home, no matter how long you've been gone. I need to sell off some more turkeys, if I had kept the hen and 7 poults I sold I would have 38 turkeys. So, take away 7 and thats how many I have!! Too many. They take so long to grow to process, but these guys will be going before it gets too cold out.

Jeremy and Heather have been renovating the old farmhouse, and yesterday and today moved in. Tonight will be the first night in the farmhouse. They need to get their freezer (I've got NO room in my two new ones..... was a struggle to put my beans in... got 3 boxes of beef we gave them)... and a few bigger items Monday or Tuesday from the house they sold. Things for sure will be very different with them here all the time. But... when I am home all day ) except when driving the bus, they will all be a work, and Jacob will be at school. Surely I can get grass cut up there and not be in their faces when they do get home. This week will be settling in before Heather goes back to her EA job at St. Mary High... and Jacob will start a new school, actually going to the same school Sawyer is.

Yeah.. the bus. Summer went kind of fast... but thats because I've been super busy pickling and freezing all summer. Did a crap load of beans last Thursday. A friend brought her vacuum sealer up and I had bags... (she gave me her old one... but doesn't seal for some reason), so we did up bags just to feed us both. A heaping cup in each. This house is too small to feed more than 4 people at once... so if we do have someone... can pull 2 bags.

So... picked more cucumbers and a friend whose gardening with me came and took them. I planted another short row (which isn't that short), because they always get the blight. This year, it was a long time coming... they are starting to shut down now. I will post a picture of my summer picklings after I jar the 9-days. Going to do that as soon as I get off here. Had a big toasted tomato sandwich. Love those Aunt Ruby's German Green tomatoes. Hard to tell when they are ripe, because they are as green as green. But big and ugly like the heirloom they are... but for taste, better than the brandy wines.... and the tomatoes, even the old school ones, are green as green as green.... as in plants. NO blight or anything... yet. I do see I have squash bugs now... those vines are starting to get old, but TONS of beige butternuts down in there, and huge too. What the hell? I planted the smaller 2 serving variety. And some have the longest weirdest neck on them? Oh well. I'm sure they will taste so good. Picked one.... it split, don't know whether because of the vine touching... a little greenish yet, but mostly tan.

So... I guess I'd better go do the pickles. Second batch on those. So so good. Then maybe cut grass. Had rain yesterday morning and last night too, not a lot, but things are so humid, its not drying too fast.

Thanks again to you both, and to FRF for the Brabanter eggs! WWW will hopefully have some good news on their progress for us soon. :pop:
I haven't candled the brabanter eggs since day one, a whole week ago! I'm jonesing over here! Jaye won't let me, she's a meanie  I've never gone a whole week without peeking before, five days is usually my max. I'm trying not to watch the calendar, but it's not working. This has got to be the most suspenseful batch of eggs I've ever set. :gaah:

@windwalkingwolf , Wait, what?! I thought you were going to hold off candling until day 7 and/or 10? Yesterday was day 7, so what are you waiting for? :-)

Permission :) Or, until one of us can't stand to wait any more, whichever comes first. I was gonna candle when I got home from work this morning, but I was tired and figured I'd let everyone stew a little longer :D
But if you're anxious, I can candle when home tomorrow around 3 a.m....

Good morning all, hm....i would like to guess that 12 are developing. :-) fingers crossed there's enough for a boy and girl for each of you LOL
I locked down on saturday...ameraucanas and silver and gold welbars.
had a hawk hunting my free ranging youngster boys yesterday, just about took me out as it came around the barn. didn't get anyone...and the birds all have learned to look up while we were gone. got the grass cut, the barn swept out and all the neglected chores done. like a week's worth of manure in the horse stall... :sighke1: that took the 2 of us shoveling almost 20 minutes to get clean. :sAng_banghead: so much easier to just stay home....
supposed to be hot and humid the next couple of days, and then after that the new breeding sets get set up and the offloading birds for the winter begins. will have a processing day coming up for the boys, likely in the next couple of weeks. and a pile of turkeys to move as well! i got 5 pure royals in a pen right now growing up, and another 14 royals and reds in the incubator to hatch next week. and then that's it for hatching this year i think. i'm still needing a good silver welbar boy...and a good gold welbar boy.....hopefully in this batch coming tomorrow-there's 20something eggs in there....fingers crossed.
watermelons are spectacular with the rain lately-picked a 25 pound one yesterday and shared it with friends. and have to get to the cucumbers and beans this week....they're going crazy! and my 10 pound pumpkins are up to my knees and going orange already-at least 40 pounds. and tomatoes will become ketchup and marinara sauce soon. kb gave us a few tomatoes on the trip back, and OMG are they GOOD! MMMMMMMM THANK YOU @Killerbunny and i cannot wait to break into the pickled quail eggs from @Jaye. they are diligently in the fridge...waiting....mmmmmm looking SO good!

Good morning,
Had 6 hawks circling high above, presumably a family out for a Sunday drive or possibly google mapping future hunting grounds.
With only about a dozen cockerels for the freezer this year, I am not in the mood for sharing.
Another hot and humid day, but looks like a storm coming.
Went to check my manure pile pumpkins, nary a pumpkin on them. Blooming like crazy and no fruit, so I guess didn't get pollinated.
Very jealous about watermelon, not happening for us up north ;)
