i sure hope it's going well today @ross! and a speedy much less painful recovery!

woke up this morning to not as cold as forecasted thankfully! but had to flip out 2 waterers in the barn, one frozen solid and the other just could not keep up with the cold. everyone looks fine, a little ticked at the weather, but not cold or shivering or anything. mostly just cuddled up on the roosts, hanging out. i'm thinking of moving the coop kids into the barn and letting them roam in the hay loft since it seems a bit warmer in the barn than the coop....but then i need to open the door. i have the lights on in there for the warmth and it does seem to be working, and now with the sun trying it's getting better. we had to borrow a tractor for the driveway. i shovelled as much as i could before i froze...poultry_admin got the neighbours blower and did the long driveway. talk about a snowstorm then! any snow up out of the chute just blew away! the wind is crazy here. cold too. i'm so glad we reinsulated the house this past summer. horses were actually playing in the snow this morning, kicking it around and running through it kicking it up. staying warm and having fun at the same time. they can get into the barn no problem and of course have zero desire! thankfully i have a paperwork day, so i'm staying in the warmth of my house. last nights drive home-well, i didn't think i'd make it. there was one road where the west wind had drifted it so badly and the snow blowing so badly i couldn't see the road. period. then all of a sudden there's headlights RIGHT THERE, driving right at me, and neither of us know where the road is, so we're inching over to try not to fall into whatever ditch, and it's 4x4 and snow flying from the drifts....i was seriously shaking by the time i got home....i never want to do another drive like that one. another cold one tonight, and hopefully better on friday....and believe it or not, they're forecasting RAIN and +6 here on monday! geez.
