Re: Homeless But Never Helpless
I want to talk to her about that today ... But have to be careful of my boundaries. I'll be looking for him again next time I'm on the hamilton mountain..and see what else I can do. I get flooded with emotions easily and can't think straight ... But if I could do again I would of given information for him to contact me ... I suspect he has a trade of some sort, or perhaps is a war vet. A lot of yes ma'am, thank you ma'am and once I introduced myself yes Miss Sandy. Very well spoken, with a slight accent, still strong (well built) I can tell he would clean up nicely and is a kind gentle soul. His first impression was wonderfully received. I also suspect he would work harder than many given the opportunity.
Homelessness is often a dead end street. How do you get social assistance without an address. You don't. How do you get a job without a contact phone number. Very very difficult. Homeless are shunned by many. Assumptions are poisonous to any progress that can be made.

Ouch owe owe, think I got something in my eye. I was never homeless and lucky I always had family to fall back on; however when I was younger and starting out I lost my job and the rent started sucking up all my money. It would have been humiliating to have to move back home and I kept trying to hide what was going on from my family, mom figured it out as mom's do, helped me with my rent just as I got a new job, but it was close. I will never forget that hopeless, embarrassed feeling and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Sandy *like like like like like* lol.

I don't think people realize how good it makes you feel to help someone else out...and how little time or money it can take sometimes. I had my "Merry Christmas" moment this weekend.
My daughter and most of her friends are off to college and university this year. Except for one. She thought she knew more than Mom and took off last winter and moved in with the boyfriend. had to come crawling back this summer, no high school diploma, no boyfriend and pregnant at 17 years old. The family has always struggled financially and many times we have given them clothes for the girls. Single Mom with two teenaged girls, Dad has been out of the picture since the girls were tiny.
This fall I noticed someone on facebook giving away a bag of baby clothes so I claimed it. Started checking out all the posting for baby stuff and posted a couple of times looking for things. In the course of a few months I managed to get a crib, stroller, high chair, car seat, swing, crib sheets, receiving blankets, bottles, baby toys and three garbage bags full of clothes. I sorted it all out and washed the clothes . We dropped it all off this weekend, baby is due in a week.
The family was over the moon, but most importantly it just made me really happy.

That is absolutely AMAZING!!! Wow. I bet she can't even find all the words for her feelings. Well done! And you are absolutely right, it feels great to help others.

Where do you live Sandy? You should write his story to a local newspaper, and get a go fund me account going.. People will help him. Maybe a job, maybe money, maybe a place to live or maybe all 3..
