Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
Thank you WLL, I knew you would offer real information insight and knowledge, where I was kind of throwing darts. Especially the mortality rates, i was well off the mark. This one is more dangerous than I thought.
Part that has not changed for me is I refuse to worry and live in a bubble because of it. Its out there and I might get it. Same as if I was camping in bear country. I will be careful as I can and I could still get eaten by a bear, but I am going camping and hiking anyway.

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
I am not being callous but it's ourselves we don't worry about, yes there are sectors of concern. I just saw on the News that there are now "Community Testing Centres" in Ottawa that will be able, they say, to test 400 people a day. I think this is a horrible idea because IMO people should be tested in their own homes to avoid further spread. One of our neighbours was taken to Ottawa Heart Institute a week ago for a very serious problem. He is just at the point of recognising people again but his wife has now been told they are not allowing any visitors there. This is a double whammy because that could hinder his recovery too. Lousy situation for them. I also worry about the Homeless sector.
We used to work at a facility "not far" from Salisbury UK and dealt with many nasties. The reaearchers were supposedly smart people but when a chap stabbed himself with a Marburg infected needle through his glove he didn't tell anyone and went to the Staff Xmas party a couple of days later. This resulted in 300 people being quarantine at home and the army taking round food parcels!!!! This is a true story.
Thanks for the info Kathy.

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
Ok...this seems to be my role in life...looking at a viewpoint that no one thinks about because of overwhelming panic...look, there is an almost 100% chance that everyone, other than maybe a hermit in Antarctica, will be exposed to this virus at some point...as far as I can see, this broke out into the world from this city area in China and quickly got all over the planet, mainly because people will not stay put...and thats not going to change...even if all the measures taken presently have the desired effect, the virus will never go away and will merely keep on keeping on...I have concern mainly for the elderly but that has always been the case...all this closing of schools, businesses, factories and public events isn't going to do diddly and cost everyone a fortune...the reactionary hysteria is insane and the media is not helping...someone is going to die from this..there is no avoiding it but thats always been the case ..take sanitation seriously, get your sleep, eat well, stay away from indoor crowds, stop loading up on gazzillion packages of TP and hand sanitizer and hopefully the work on a vaccine will be successful...

On a lighter note one band said they would be playing to empty venues now. Then said just like normally!

Just thought while having morning coffee . Other than self sufficient folk like on here others won’t need TP cause they’ll run out of food so no need for TP ,

Geez, it's a 14 day quarantine, so how much TP does one really need for 2 weeks? And really, worst comes to worst, if you DO run out you can always go back to what people used BTP (before toilet paper) - Old school - like using pages from the Sears-Robuck catalogue. Okay, maybe not Sears-Roebuck since that company is no more, but there's the weekly flyers that wind up going into the black bin anyway.

Re: Coronavirus - how much do you worry ?
I work for a large Canadian company in a big box store in a smaller community. It amazes me that people coughing up a lung have to go shopping for clothes at any time... let alone right now. Last week I had a lady cough like crazy into her hand, wipe her hand on her pants and then pick up her points card off the counter and hand it to me. I asked her to just turn it over so I could scan the barcode and she glared at me like I was the ignorant one. People suck at the best of times. I cannot choose to work from home. So I wish people would choose to do the right thing. Now more than ever we all need to think of others...I have zero faith that we as a society can do that.
