Grrr...vegans! :)
Re: Grrr...vegans! :)
Well I hope eating vegetarian becomes the "norm" then more meat for me. lol. I am of the mindset to each their own, is someone wants to be a vegan, go for it just don't bother me and don't be preachy about it. The part I don't get is all these new plant based burger patties, such as Beyond Meat and others, that try to mimic the taste and texture of meat and one of them even "bleeds" like meat... if someone does not eat and/or is against eating meat why do you want to eat something made to look like and taste like meat? Plus I would much prefer eating a burger made of 100% meat compared to one of the highly processed plant based burger patties.
There are lots of good vegetarian foods out there, but burgers and other dishes made with textured vegetable protein and similar produces, no thanks, gross.

Re: Grrr...vegans! :)
I personally think everybody should keep a few animals for eggs and meat. I will talk about my (delicious) chickens to everyone I meet. I will talk about my pets, some of which are my food. I have a stupid high metabolism, and I absolutely cannot keep weight on when I eat a plant-based diet. I will NOT foist my personal views and diet choices unwanted on other people, ever.
I know that my diet offends some vegans. Not all, but more than a few. They tend to think that not only should we not eat meat, but that animals are better off dead than becoming meat, and people like me and you are better off dead because we eat meat.
Some vegans have a bone in their teeth. They think everybody should eat wheatgrass, tofu, and fruits and grains that no one on earth can pronounce. They will talk about how their lifestyle choices are right and how yours and mine are wrong until they realize they're not getting through and then you and I will either never hear from them again, or they become militant and invade farmers' property to "cuddle" piglets and "give calves a proper burial". https://farmersforum.com/activists-stor ... or-burial/
with no legal repercussions.
language warning for this next link. http://www.ranting-gryphon.com/Audio/Ra ... arians.mp3
There are seven and a half BILLION people on earth today. I'm not sure what they think we're all going to eat in a few years and a few more billion from now, to maintain this stupid rate of reproduction and growth.
Personally, I'm looking at eating some vegans

Re: Grrr...vegans! :)
It's interesting because this is all about marketing. A friend had a heart attack maybe 10 years ago. Part of his convalescence was an "Education" programme for patient and spouse about healthy lifestyles. He showed me the course material which his wife was now religiously following. It was mostly about eating and cooking and sponsored by "Uni****r". Apparently it was more about pushing certain processed
like low fat Becel. His wife showed me some of the veggie burgers she was cooking up for him on his new low fat diet. I pointed out that lean grass fed beef was lower in fat, salt & had a better fatty acid profile than these products. Lots of emphasis on cruciferous veggies raw which have n=been shown to have anti thyroid activity (lightly steamed is fine) and soy!
At the hospital cancer centre the Cancer Society were more concerned about marketing wigs for chemo hair loss and telling people how terrible they felt without hair. Their "free" wig programme is a joke and I'm sure many well meaning folks donate happily.
One lady who was a youngish, vegan, tee total, marathon runner horrified her Dr. by saying "well the healthy lifestyle hasn't helped so far so screw it!" she now is a moderate eater, drinker etc.
As to @windwalkingwolf links. I will not allow the relative of some friends on our property because she is an SPCA nutbar and commented that she would "love" to see how my animals are raised.
Anyway my rant is over now.

My mother is 90. Always been a good cook, and aware of health concerns and diet. Last year, she was getting dizzy spells and things. Doctoring for about three months on it. They finally discovered she had been so efficient at lowering the salt content of her diet that she was low in electrolytes. More salt in the soup and a few things, she is fine now. Moderation in all things I would suggest.

... and the Heart Institute is apparently still pushing the same course material: an acquaintance, who takes the same commuter bus as I do, had a heart attack in December. He recently told me that he was following the Heart Institute diet guidelines and was proudly telling me that he has switched to Becel - no more butter for him.Killerbunny wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 7:21 amIt's interesting because this is all about marketing. Re: Grrr...vegans! :)
One must wonder whatever happened to balanced diet.
I have been around longer then any of you, and had I actually followed ANY of the LATEST studies on "healthy eating" I am pretty sure I would have been dead long time ago, or at least really really confused.
I started to pay attention to food and what was in our food, when sometime in the Sixties our innocent child encouraged by TV commercials insisted on trying "coolaid" (?) and spilled some on the counter top. The stain proved to be resistant to any cleaning products I tried (presumably red dye #5) which send me to do some research (only books available then
and subsequent move to the country, since growing your own seem to be the only source of unadulterated food accessible to us.
Heart institute only follows current acceptable practices, and unfortunately they aren't really all that current, medical profession isn't well know for easy acceptance of new ideas.

I was looking for some information from Heart Institute, and on every page, the dominant info was how to donate....
