Uh oh, something doesn't jive with those dates... for instance, the moon in this part of the world is waxing from January 28 to February 10th, February 27th to march 11th, etc. etc....I think maybe Farmers Almanac hatching recommendations might be about as reliable as their weather predictions...oh well, as soon as I get eggs end of February/ beginning of March, it's game on!!!

Those will be set during a waning moon, and hatch on the waxing in this part of the world :D so you will be part of group "A". I think those dates posted are time-zone dependant!

According to those dates I have always gone about it the wrong way, setting eggs on 1st of the month, to make it easy for my old tired brain to remember when to candle and when they will be hatching and the next batch 2 weeks later.
Adding moon fazes to this system would pretty much blow my system out of the water.
Also thinking about hatching under a hen this year, so maybe I will check how this relates to hens going broody?

OC, you may be on to something. something has to trigger the hormones in a hen to go broody, I wonder if it has something to do with this?

Since the hens seem to go broody in what seems to us, a very haphazard fashion , this may call for another "control" groupthegawd wrote:QR_BBPOST OC, you may be on to something. something has to trigger the hormones in a hen to go broody, I wonder if it has something to do with this?

I had an almanac calendar one year and I tried hatching and not hatching according to the dates they listed. It totally works, all eggs in those batches hatched on their dates and 100% hens in those batches. That's what you wanted to read isn't it, grow up lol, there was no difference, there is no magic hatching dates, no Santa Claus, no Easter bunny. Hahaha, I'm being mean.
