That's what I figured as well Ross, the chicken area of the bottom has lights in each pen area, the larger basement area of the barn where hubby keeps the tractor is dark. That is where we have the bait as there is an area below the work bench that it has been digging up.

Also with the lights on a rat I don't think would have any chance with one of my EO roosters, I think my hen would have survived the attack if my boy could have seen what was happening!

JimW wrote:QR_BBPOST Good info. I have not noticed any rats or signs of rats around here yet, but I think I will set some traps incase.

I don't have my pesticide licence, so cannot buy the restricted baits, so any suggestions on a good brand of bait/poison?
Jim I am not sure what to suggest, we had found that the over the counter brands don't work very well. Maybe message Jaye to ask her what her homemade "recipe" was??

Predator Question?

need to post the home made recipe here! I had a mink get into my barn through a 2" hole in the tin and killed one of my welsh drakes and then it got ahold of my oldest tufted goose and bit her pretty good around the back of the head. I patched up the hole in the tin and moved my ducks and geese into my garage for the time being. I don't have that many birds and don't want to risk loosing what I do have. I have had a live bait set up for months without success. Then the other night I had a young possum show up. Went out and almost stepped on it as I went out the front door. I went back in for a flashlight to see it and then went to grab the live trap and by then it took off and I couldn't find it. Noticed tracks around the front of my coop the other night but couldn't find the culprit.

As long as it is in an enclosed area so nothing else can get it you can put out antifreeze and they will drink it.
