WLLady wrote:QR_BBPOST pipes, why don't you contact the club in scotland, and see if you and then could arrange something? If they know someone else is interested they may know who else in the world has them, or even have some ideas of how to get them here.....? just a thought.
You guys are really great. Thanks for looking into them. I tried to email the club in Scotland, but there was an issue with emailing through their site. Something about not allowing , and something not set up. Not sure what the problem was, as I'm computer retarded, but it wouldn't allow it. So I contacted the British poultry club , and asked them to forward an e-mail to the president of the Dumpy club. Hopefully they are on good terms with each other. You never know with the British. The whole catholic/protestant thing and all. Not to mention their football club rivalries. I guess nothing worthwhile happens easily.

Oh it is the biggest mix-up/ That you have ever seen/ British Poultry she was Orange/ And Scot's Dumpy, he was Green/

HAHAHA Sorry. That popped into my head and if I didn't type it out, it would have been stuck there until next week.
Anyway, it might take a fair bit of networking, but if you can find other Canadians looking to import Dumpies from wherever (I know they' must be out there) you can drop the costs a fair bit by collaborating on import and transportation costs.

Any ideas on importing live birds (in general, to Canada)? Possible? If I import eggs there is the 25% fatal gene to deal with. If they live 25% have the wrong legs, so 50% remain. Then I have to consider which of the 50% are show/breeding quality. Male to female ratio. So if I order 20 eggs, I might end up with 2 or 3 chickens worth keeping and maybe 1 rooster... Is it really worth it... Maybe not... Hmmmm How bad do I want them...

Yes, absolutely possible, there are vet checks and paperwork, also with eggs but eggs are much more of a gamble as pressure changes during air cargo can also adversely affect hatchability, and live birds can more easily be insured than eggs.
You will have to go through federal agriculture import channels, and it won't be cheap as each side has its paperwork.

Just shipping eggs across country viability drops way down, I know lots of people who have shipped 2 dozen eggs and only got 1 or 2 chicks.

my best hatch of shipped eggs was in Feb 2 years ago... I was terrified! but had a great hatch!

the paperwork to import eggs is the same as birds and cost the same, id skip eggs all together and get adults if at all possible.

Have to agree with Al. If you are going to go through the expense you may as well get breeding stock directly and not have to worry about hatch rates.
