Easter Egger - Cockerel?

Post by Maximus » Mon Jul 04, 2016 4:20 pm

Hmmm, so cooper and grey off to auction on Friday. The other one I'll keep for another week or two .. See how 'it' develops. I have a few more that are questionable.

I'll take pics in a bit and get opinions ... Thanks everyone!!! Really appreciate

I would say these two are pullets, very small combs compared to the first two pictures you posted.

Oh gosh I'm remembering my first time with young birds trying to sex them, oh boy it brings back memories! Thought I was going insane. It will get better don't worry.

The patterning on the second bird makes it very difficult to see the shape of the feathers. If a pullet the actual shape is more rounded.

2 pullets. don't be fooled by the black stripes looking pointy on the second one-that is a typical girl patterning for an easter egger. i call them "black gold" they're very very pretty and are on the e+ locus. the top one only girls can be that colour. so 2 pullets. pretty sure.

both pullets. The saddle feathers come in ahead of the hackle feathers, if you lift up the wings and look underneath at the back you can see if the new feathers are pointed or round. There's a big difference between the two, if you think they are pointed they probably are. I can usually spot the saddle feathers by week 7 or 8.

Thank goodness Kathy stepped in, I was going to vote for a dilute Bald Eagle on the firs one ;)
