Looking for wood already seasoned and split and if the firewood guy would stack it for me that would be perfect! Ha haa haven't found that one yet.
I've generally found the guys here won't unload their firewood until the (cash) $$ is handed over, I guess they have found out the hard way. What a crummy business this is, really! No trust on either side. And I kind of wonder when they charge HST on the load, don't give a receipt and want cash..... Surely the gov't s are getting their pound of flesh? Ha haaa.
KB that guy should have put each of those logs back in the truck, and then dumped the load on the guy's car. But really we aren't idiots, we're just looking for a really seasoned, real bush cords of decent hardwood (basswood doesn't count) at a fair price.
I think I may have found someone, we'll see how it goes.
Baron ! What, you won't deliver one cord at at a time to the GTA???? ;-)
How come your oaks are dead? :-(
Oh I don't take that poop lying down. You charge me HST, I need your HST# on your invoice and I validate it online PRIOR to payment or there isn't any 13% price increase paid. No way. And I'll report your ass too if you give me any shenanigans.

That topic fires me up, can you tell?

Best of luck. We always go through an annual wood frenzy too. So labour intensive. Ranks right up there with haying as a necessary body wrecking evil :)

I am on the southern edge of Canadian Shield, our forest is ridges and valleys, the ridges having really thin soil. The long hot drought of 2012 crippled the trees on two ridges. Some died that year and others over the next three years. Oak is very dense and can lie on the ground for years and still be worth cutting. Birch if dead rots almost instantly.

That's sad about losing the oaks to drought, looks like we're headed for a very dry summer. I always think of oaks as eternal.....

And the best part of dropping dead trees....dead limbs falling while you cut! Elm's have been lovingly nicknamed "widowmakers".

Baron...when i was in grade ten, one of my classmates was killed when felling a dead elm...large limb silently broke off, falling maybe 40 feet straight down and killed him instantly...a nickname earned with reason
