Good morning all! Looks like the crows are congregating out this way today....means they'll all head to chatham soon, which means winter is on the way here! Yesterday we had flocks of swans flying over headed south when the north wind started up in the evening. Only a little frost this morning. Nothing huge yet, but i need to dig out the heated water dishes....and figure out if i have enough. i did get the barn cleaned out most of the way. I'm now stressing over hay...do i have enough for the winter. sigh. I guess i'll find out in february! still have a few ducks to hit the freezer. We did a trial test run and made some into pastrami and some into montreal smoked meat. OMG, if you haven't and you have ducks you don't know what to do with....it's FANTASTIC! I have some deer just getting ready for smoking that will be montreal smoked meat right now too. I should have done this EONS ago. My next try might just be bacon....haha.
Have some fixing to do today on windows in the coop to get it all winterized, and raking up some more walnuts in the paddock. we had a bumper crop of those things this year. sigh. Our corn is ready for harvest really soon too!
well, cooler today, but nice. So i better get started on the coop windows. Just need to force 2 closed somehow and trim up one that rotted out this year. I think the longest time it will take is finding some wood to use for the trim....

LOL well, this person spend sunday at emerg having broken one of the rods in her back. hm. and how, you ask? By putting a roast in the oven of all things. Who would have thought that cooking was such a dangerous sport? Anyways, the increasing pain i have had the last year is gone-however, the break spot hurts a LOT. anyways, there will be a surgery coming up. They were hooming and hawing all day yesterday about admitting me or not, doing surgery right away or not....guess not, because they sent me home...i need a CT and MRI and to see my surgeon, so let's hope the CT actually happens this time. I've been waiting since february for one that was ordered in feb! And i know that it's all related....the pain, the broken rod....i can stand up straight for the first time in 2 years today, so there was something going wrong....argh.

I guess it's time to sell all the chickens. all the way back to just a small "eggs for us" flock. and no more. it's too much. i think what precipitated the break was a bad fall on thursday last week, i fell getting out of the coop (caught my foot)....fell hard. sigh. for someone without metal in there it would likely have been just fine. but it knocked the wind out of me...been ages since i did that. argh. just argh. so i'll put the ads up soon and hopefully get everyone moved out before it gets too cold. sigh. i hate to do it, but i don't see any other way.

So sorry to hear the bad news WLLady. It's no fun to experience a bad fall when we get older - and you're just a young 'un! Hoping that you will get your CT and that you will be fixed up very soon.

Linda
