Aye, the "humane society" and SPCA centres in some cities (seattle) are full of chickens. People saw Oprah with chickens and said "oohh I want one!" And they didn't think of the "endgame" so they just drop them off and the "bleeding hearts" can't bear to put them down, let alone eat them.

You know how sometimes when you walk thru your chickens... there are those that you inevitably step on their toes... and they try and 'get away' squawking like mad?? ... well, twice now, I did that to one of my EE's... and what do you know? A truly mute bird, LOL. Maybe I HAVE the fortune right in my own chicken flock!! Hmmmm, I'll beat that lunatic's price, I'll sell for $75 a bird!! LMAO
