Extension granted, still 11 days left :)........

Post by Ontario Chick » Fri Jan 26, 2018 10:01 am

OK, people, we all know how much can be achieved in 7 days, even if we skip the obvious creationist theory,
apparently there are people who do 7 Marathons on 7 continents in 7 days,
You have to admit that taking few pictures of your "food and entertainment" providers isn't that big a job, especially as the wknd weather looks good enough to do this without getting a frostbite. :)
Our "esteemed Admin" had put much effort in to the set up for the online show and we have a professional judge donating his time and expertise, lets not embarrass ourselves, by not delivering a respectable show for him to judge.

I was thinking about trying to enter a bird... do we have samples of how we should take photos? I have never been to nor in a show.

you will want to stand your bird and not have them freak out or run away, or strut (turkeys) or flap or look at the camera LOL. neutral coloured background and most of us put a soup tin or something into the photo so our judge can figure out just how big the bird really is. and photo from the side....other helpful hints are here: How to take the perfect picture

mine are covered in mud. and the last time i tried to do this i took a whole SD card of photos and ended up with some hilarious "outtakes" (chicken flying at my head, chicken upside down in a dash to get off the crate, chicken blur, blurry chicken, shots of the floor, etc)....and about 3 good pics. LOL.

maybe i'll get around to finding the one bird that ISN'T in full moult in my barn this weekend....but given the turkeys are completely mud coloured i don't think there's a hope of getting any photos of them. and the chickens, well, between -25 frostbite on combs and moulting odds are bad that i'll have anything not embarrassing to enter.

This is well positioned bird, showing the Wyandotte type to it's advantage.
All he is missing is a can of soup for size comparison.
You want to avoid the "head stretched surprised look, because you loose the TYPE which doesn't leave much for the judge to go on.
But in the end as we know from experience, our excellent judge was able to deal with whatever we put in front of him, and lets just admit it wasn't all perfect ;)

Troy is good if we want an extension. I'll move the deadline to Sunday Feb 11th as the new deadline. This gives two more weekends for more entries. Hopefully more nice days to take whole SD-cards full of pictures. :fan:

I'm having the most difficulty with my tamest birds lol. They don't stay put for one millisecond and have no fear or respect for me. And after me putting them back on their stage 100 times they have that scrunched up, eyebrow raised glare on them that says "you're not the boss of me" and I swear one gave me the finger before flying away. I'm not sure this is going to work!
