six of one, half dozen of the other!

Post by Skinny rooster » Fri Dec 22, 2017 2:36 pm

:laying egg: :easter32: :easter34: :smiley-char026: :easter32: :easter34:

I am averaging six eggs a day from eight bantams, I think that is a good number, I don't have any extra lighting and it's not heated. One day I only got two and I thought the cold weather had messed things up but next day back on track to six. There are 12 hens but 3 are too young and the mother bantam is molting so that leaves only 8 to lay.

Awesome, I got 4 eggs today and felt like I won the lottery! Mind you, if I go by comb colour, I'm pretty sure the dog and the pig are getting lots more than I'm finding.

Lol, I'm the same way, every time I go out it's like I'm totally surprised that there are eggs in the nest and I am so excited.... lol.... I guess I'm just easy to please!

Sometimes like with my neighbour's chickens, they are all laying, just every third day or so. Mine did that when they were starting but now it's pretty good. I guess I am impressed because they are just bantams and they are just mutts. Honestly though I don't think I could do any better if they were pure leghorns. The mothers were awesome layers so I'm hoping the daughters are the same.

Kenya, it's not just you lol, I was always surprised by how good my silkies were at laying, I think they get a bad wrap because they always quit to hatch.

I'm starting to wonder if it's possible my ladies are laying so well because of the Christmas tree??? They would be able to see it, the timer turns on the lights at dusk and off at ten. It's about 150 feet away, is that possible?
