Bergs Hatchery Inquirey

Post by Silverlacedmom » Fri Apr 07, 2017 1:06 pm

Hello! I didn't know where to post this so picked this spot on the forum!
I have exhausted all I could find online asking / looking for bantams that could be shipped to me with no avail.
So my husbands coworker is going to put in an order from "Bergs hatchery" the issue is the only option they have for bantams is a straight run random breed lot out of a handful of breeds. Also I know people who have gotten birds from them and was not impressed with their quality. Of course it's a hatchery... gah!
The cherry on top is $7.80 a chick. A bit high for a random breed lot!?!? Planning on getting 5-10 at $40-$80. Rather spend my money else where. But spring is around the corner and no luck. Any suggestions or should I just get them and try it. Thankies!

Hi, I suggest you post in the wanted section what you are looking for, the people on here are really helpful and if they don't have any they may know someone who has. Did you look in the for sale section on here. Also let us know the area you live.

Good Luck

Yep yep! Posted in the wanted section here. Got lots of nice replies but no offers.

I'm up in Red Lake. 3 hrs north of Dryden.

I am just wanting some bantams. Cochins n Wyandotte are my favourites but I am up to try any breed. I've had Japanese. Brahma. RIRS. Sultans. Silkies all at home with my parents. Currently have standard Orpingtons.

Hatcheries usually don't sex bantams because they are too small to sex successfully without casing them injury.
There are many good quality breeders of bantams on this forum, give it another try! :)
I can see that distance may be a problem.

If you're needing birds mailed to you, your options are very limited in Canada. I don't know anyone who would be willing to send live birds in the mail, many of us have seen how Canada Post tends to treat parcels. However, there are a few people in Canada that will send adult birds air freight, if that's an option for you: but you'll pay a lot more than $80...plus side is that the freight cost will be the same whether you buy 1 or 21. Your absolute best bet would be to buy fertile eggs and hatch them yourself. Still a gamble, but there's no shortage of people that will mail eggs.
