SOy beans or field peas

I want to bump the protein up a smidge before winter. DOes anyone here feed soy beans (not meal) or field peas to turkeys as treats. If so do they like them and manage them whole. I know my chickens used to visit the neighbours cow feed trough for the yummy stuff (awkward)!

The wild turkeys around here glean the soybean fields here and seem to flourish. Boiled my chickens relish them. Hens can process peas. Around here Soys at the farm are 1/2 the price and 1/3 more protein.

Yes, the soy fields around here are frequented by the wilds this time of year, and the flocks seem to get bigger every year, so clearly phytoestrogens and genetic tinkering/roundup are not affecting fertility at least lol. I used soymeal last fall and winter mixed with their regular food, because it was way cheaper than buying a higher protein food (which has soy to boost protein, anyway), and because it's roasted. Not sure I'd personally be comfortable feeding them raw soy, or peas or any other legume for that matter whether whole or ground, but like I said it doesn't seem to bother the wild population. I have no idea about field peas, but I've heard good things. How did your pot beans grow/turn out? Maybe next year grow a bunch extra for the turkeys :D

The Trail of Tears beans worked very well but are labour intensive to shell out. Good Mother STallard started late and are still growing. Again labour intensive to hull. No the birds ain't getting any! Still digging potatoes out I'm only about halfway done. ANyone want pots? bring a fork you're welcome. What's worse is Hubby's half Polish and doesn't either make or drink potato vodka (allergic to beets too LOL!).

HAHAHAHA man thats something I never did and never even tought of until after I quite drinking. watching that crazy show moonshiners. it really dosent look to hard now does it. LOL. When my dad and his brothers were young men they had a still and made something out of apples. that was long before I was around and the only reason I know is because the pot, made out of stainless steel is still around sitting in a scrap heap at my grandmother's house. its a strange looking thing as a kid I thought it was a small UFO.

its only illegal if you sell it right? it was for personal consumption.

I have potatoes to dig up too, lots of them, I put 180 potatos in the ground and 13 sweet potato slips. there sbould be lots!

hey KB. I processed 4 roosters yesterday, I accidentally broke the crop on one. he was full of tomatoes (his first offence), pole beans and soybeans from the field. so ya they will eat them. but not being roasted cant be too good for them. The wild turkeys around here eat them after the field has been harvested, I've never seen them take them off the plant. I bet the sun roasts them a bit making them healthier. but hey I've only harvested 1 wild turkey so far and it was a fluke so what do I know. HAHA
