Everyone said it was the best turkey they've ever had and when leftovers were packed up, people were actually asking to take some home. Jeeze !! I wish I could like turkey and join in on it but it's just not my thing.

Not sure if the cook (me) should take the compliments or the organic farmer.

I'm back. Rambling!!! Betcha didn't miss that the last few days eh?
I feel pretty indifferent about turkeys, don't particularly like or dislike them, last year we had one of those $95 organic turkeys, and it was undeniably the best turkey I ever had.
So some compliments to the cook, but definitely great compliments to the farmer. :)

Good job Al,

I have only had my BSW turkeys since May and love them. We didn't actually have one for Christmas, my mother-inlaw cooked a commercial white bought from a local butcher, which turn out preety nice without spedning $95.

I am over-wintering 3 toms and 5 hens, I have not decided which ones to keep for breeding next year so I will keep them all until the spring and then cull a couple.

Right on Jim! I would cull according to size. an old tom should weigh no more than 21 lbs according to the SOP. It sure is hard to choose which ones to keep isnt it! but keep more than 1 tom for the just in case. and oh hey when the time comes if you can Id like to grab a dozen or so eggs from ya. I have a young hen who laid her first egg yesterday! WOOOHOOOO! not sure what to do with it though? prolly a fried egg samwich tonight for bed time snack ;-) mmmmhmmmmm

Sure for Al if everything goes as planned I should have eggs this spring. I plan on keeping 2 of my current Toms and 4 hens for my BSW breeding group and using my 5th hen to breed with my Artisan Gold Tom.
