Poultry Talk Ontario (pto.ca)

Reading the post about wheeezing chickens. I haave a flock of sparrows that seem to live in my coop and they drive me crazy. I bought a badminton racket at the Goodwill and dispatched a few, but they are wise to me now.

Anyone know of plans or ideas for an in coop sparrow trap? I have looked at several that work outside fairly well, but I would like to get the little devils when they come inside. Any ideas?

All i can say is good luck. I was having none until the kestrel moved in. Last night the sparrows somehow got up into the loft where the kestrel cant so we did the same with the feed bin lids....using them as rackets sigh. They did get afraid of us and loft but theyll be back...

They get in through the chicken hatch.

So, the pop door? If so, I've seen quite a few poultry people hang old CDs from the top of the entryway to deter sparrows from coming in. Not 100% effective, but does keep a good many out because light reflects off them, and their movement disturbs them. Apparently, chickens quickly get used to having it there. Worth a try?

Oh that sounds good Jaye. I have that problem with starlings.

I'm new to this group, have you tried putting a bird feeder outside your coop? For the most part as long as I keep the feeder realviely full, they don't seem to go after the chicken's feed. Just a thought. Good luck.

I have used CD's to keep Cardinals from trying to attack themselves in the window, worked very well.

I have one of those screens that have magnets to stay closed. You just walk right through it and it snaps back closed. Chickens get used to it in no time
First time I trimmed the bottom up so chickens could go under. Problem was the sparrows did too. Lol
Sort of tattered now so time to get a new one!
Cost was under $10.00
Hopefully I can still find them!!!
