Brooder/Grower Condos

Post by Giffen Farms » Mon Jan 29, 2018 9:22 pm

I found 2 of these metal chick brooders on the wonderful kijiji and thought that would make good grower pens, as I've been using commercial rabbit cages the past 3-4 years, I've been watching the ad for these since early fall and was able to get them both for fairly cheap.
I removed the heater elements from one unit and replaced the center with 1"x1" wire mesh (where the heater was), now it has about 10-12" of head room verses the 8"+/- before, the other unit is complete I pulled apart 1 heater to see what's inside and can find most of the parts from GQF so I may attempt at rebuilding one element, if it works I'll replace all the heaters.
Today I pulled it all apart and painted it, black frames, red base, I'll post new pictures tomorrow of the completed unit, it has 4 pens on the top and 4 shelves on the bottom

I didn't paint the feeders or water troughs but otherwise turned put pretty nice, I have extra 4 feeders, 4 water troughs, wire ends, drop pans, screens if anyone needs any parts.

First batch of chicks of the year 135 chicks, this- if fully operational would think it could hold 600 chicks, enough room to keep them in one side but there's room so why not give extra space
