Fort Coop!

Post by thegawd » Sat Dec 12, 2015 7:13 pm

:stars:  :chicken_dance: :coolguy:

HAHAHA! Well Im not done but finally able to let my birds out at the new house! This chicken run and the coops are about 3000 sq. feet in total :rofl1: I finished the gates today... so much for building one and closing in the others HAHA! I built all 3. I need to add a 2x6 with 9 inch nails down into the ground under the gates to make it completely safe from digging. while i was finishing up the gate I filled up the pond with the hose. I put about 8" or so in so it was ready for the ducks and geese when I let them out. I finished cutting the hole on the wall and kicked it in lol, then cleaned up the sharp metal edges, stood back and let them fly out the door... all the birds ended up in the pond lol and the ducks stood on the side wondering what the heck all these chickens were doing in there pond, LOL. the geese needed to be chased out of the coop but once out never came back in. man do the ducks and geese love being in the water and do I ever love seeing them act like water fowl! Once they were all out and i took some pics and videos and then i went back to work. I really cleaned up and restructured the bird door. complete with vinyl siding corners and a roof. Im guna put something on the roof, maybe i'll just get some black silicone and smear it all over with a putty knife. So far this has still only cost me $30, But i used a tonne of screws, probably 2000 3" gold deck screws, the cheap ones... still havent seen one rust in about 5 years of using them. My father in law hooked me up with a bucket of fence nails, a bunch of gate hardware, some hinges, and other spare part for future projects. :rofl1: The pond is still holding water, apx the same amount as i put in it and I no longer see bubbles coming up. Hopefully my plan of doing nothing and letting the birds build the pond might just work after all ;-) haha ill see tomorrow morning if theres any left.

Still to do...
build good nest boxes, probably rubbermaids that slide into a shelf of some sort, 6 of them.
get 17 - 8 foot 2x4s to place on the inside of the fence so the metal can be screwed to it along the bottom.
subdivide 2 pens off the front of the trailer coop out as far as the coop. 22x22 and 12 x22.
subdivide the triangle part at the front right of the run and build a truck topper coop.
Cross my fingers that I have enough poultry netting to cover all of the top. If not my reds will be covered first.
install eaves trough to a 50 gallon rain barrel that overflows to the pond which overflows out to the field.
cross my fingers the birds seal the pond :rofl1: (i use that smillie alot... its right there lol!)
subdivide a pen in the coop where the fence is on the lower half, about 10x10 and build another pen off the front, 10x12.
Run electricity and water out to the coop.

What i like about all the building I have left is most of it is easy and dosent have to be built no where near as strong... im using galvanized poultry netting and any of the lumber i have left over which is still a huge stack!

Pics to come :running-chicken:

Well here comes the pics! I went and resized them in paint down to 50% which sure did knock down the file size quite a bit! theres 30 pics, at 15Mb total, not bad at all. and the coolest thing ever was dragging all files at once right into the text box and watching them all upload in less than a minute!

MAN THIS IS COOL! :rofl1:

Thanks Guys! I forgot to mention I need to build a sliding door on the bird door and somehow its going to be on a timer! mark my words, lol... I picture a wheel and a length of cable only long enough to raise and lower it and the timer set long enough to complete half a revolution. I bet i can use a bbq rotisserie motor for it... and thanks to me accidentally buying a few timers that actually control seconds it should be easy enough to complete. man i could have avoided a lot of egg turner engineering if i just found a stupid timer that did seconds when i actually was looking for one!

That was a nice find Al!
So far I clicked my way through the "Attachment" menu when I wanted to upload something. But that "drop the file in the text box" works much nicer! And it arranges them, too.

So, does that mean you are volunteering your posts to be purged first? Ha ha, just joking. Looking at the load generated today, we won't be talking purging for a while yet. It can grow :chores:
