Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
Aye, I hear ya. What mix is in the metal, what hardening agents etc. i know some steel guys that worked a construction site in Alberta. They spent a week putting together the frame of a commercial bldg, came back on Monday after weekend, it had collapsed. Check the waybill... cheap Chinese steel. After that the steel workers demanded to know the source of every load of steel or they refused to work.
2008 Sichuan earthquake- 69000 dead, 5 million homeless; cheap steel construction was a contributing factor to the death toll
Sheesh: now to look after chickens we gotta be experts in steel (and animal husbandry, construction...)

Yeah, I'm not sure I signed up for this either! Too much thinking.

Feed store is still your best bet, more likely to carry a wire quality meant for livestocks.
Big box stores prefer the cheep stuff.

have you looked out back at tsc? the tsc in Sarnia has WAY more fencing and cage wire out back than they do in the store... I was quite suprised that I didn't know that until I bought my log splitter a couple years ago.

The same here behind the feed store.
I the winter they store it under the snow, great quality control.
You can get good price on the stuff somebody run over coz they forgot they store rolls of wire under there

OC, you missed a joke here that Tom reffered to. "Cheep" is for little birds "cheep cheep"Ontario Chick wrote:Feed store is still your best bet, more likely to carry a wire quality meant for livestocks.

"Cheap" is for inexpensive or poor quality.

I don't mind paying more for quality stuff, but it really grinds when I pay a lot of money for crap, and couldn't tell it was crap because it's packaged so you can't tell what you are buying and there's no technical information (or worse, misleading info) on the label.
My biggest issue buying big heavy stuff at TSC is zero delivery service. At least my feed store delivers. But again, there's never enough information listed to choose what you want out of a catalogue or on line (Canadian websites are the worst anywhere for crappy ecommerce).
