Where can you buy decent welded wire?
Where can you buy decent welded wire?
I plan on a real building frenzy next spring and I was wondering where I could get decent heavy duty welded hardware cloth. Looking for 1-1/2" squares, and 1/2" squares. The hardware cloth from TSC is crap you can peel off the wires. If all goes well this year I'll be importing some American Buckeyes, and they absolutely have to be in a predator proof pen.
I believe that there's some 8' wide 1 1/2" mesh that I think you lay into concrete but I think that only comes in giant rolls that I can't handle. Any thoughts?

Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
Our local lumber yard (Castle) ordered ours in for us we had the choice of 8 ft or 4 ft wide rolls and I am pretty sure they were 50 ft rolls...I can check later. We went with 4ft so that we could handle the rolls better. It has been on our duck pen for about 9 months now and not a single wire has popped...it was tough to cut through...ended up using the grinder with a zip wheel to save my knuckles! you can see the rolls leaning up beside the pen.

Robbie...i hear you on the wire..its marginally better that poultry meshing and pretty expensive...i dont think its actually welded..more like soldered together at the joints in a flow process...so the joints are weak...it peels apart even while unrolling it sometimes...the welded wire with the 1" x 2" openings is about as tough as you'll find but its more expensive and good luck with finding the smaller openings...i wish they made chainlink with smaller holes...or a slightly lighter gauge...its great for just about everything except weasels...the search continues i guess...my bank acct only can take so much anyway...lol..and Happy New Year..

If you have any fur farmers in your area they should be able to point you to a supplier .

It was one we had at the barn for years...we plugged the holes for the taps and overflow, put a drain kit in it and ran an ABS pipe under ground...once a week in the summer I pull the plug let the tub drain and fill 'er back up again.SandyM wrote:Omg!! I love the bath tub for the ducks! Stealing!!!!

TSC stocks fences from different places, one name is Red Brand. go to their site and they have a lot of stuff. I downloaded their pdf catalog and its great as a guide. http://redbrand.com/OurFamilyOfFence/Default.aspx
I'm interested in their Apron Fence for chickens, but of course, no one in Canada stocks it. TSC stocks the cheaper or more popular stuff, not the heavy duty stuff.
the Apron Fence is a 1 1/2 mesh heavy duty chicken wire: the bottom foot is on a hinge and can be buried underground or placed at a 90 degree angle

our feed store carries the heavier stuff in the 1x1 and in 1/2 x 1/2 so you should be able to get your feed store to order it.
