Calf hutch coops

Post by Robbie » Fri Dec 18, 2015 11:36 am

I saw someone using calf hutches as coops for breeding pens, looked like a very good idea. There was a fenced run around each hutch and the chickens were in breeding pairs. Has anybody tried this, how did it work for you? There are some used hutches for sale in Owen Sound if anybody's interested at $125 a piece.

I know of 2 people locally that use them for geese. $125 is a great price Robbie.

I'd get them if I had a way to bring them home. I doubt they would fit in the back of a Chevy Sonic. :-/
I have a friend with a truck but that's too far to ask him to go.

Is there snow in Orillia? I'd pretty much drive to Alaska to make a snow man and some snow angels at this point!

It's Ross's fault, he bought all that Summer Wheeze.

I have a used one I'm planning on using. In the middle of a house addition. So it's last on list.
Gotta petedator proof it. Welded wire all around or raise it up.

They make a great brooder room too for the chicks that outgrow the basement brooder. My very first coop as a kid was a calf hutch, where I housed about 10 bantams.

also wanted to add something cheaper and just as good as calf hutches! these liquid shipping crates work great just cut a little hole in the side of the plastic and you got yourself a little shelter or cage. A lot of companies are just getting rid of them. use the steel cage for storing fire wood! :fingersx:
