Robbie..i know..its weird at TSC...they better smarten up...crappy customer service in the store..uninformed floor staff...selling a bunch of junk in the main aisles all the time...no delivery...and the prices aren't much to write home about...i tend to go to my brother in law's feed mill in Forfar here for most things even tho he won't give me a deal...i wouldn't ask anyway cuz his prices beat most everyone around...and they know their stuff there...i always get good advice and come away knowing that I know nothing..i should be named Jon Snow

I agree TomK I find that TSC is pretty pricey. But sometimes they do have stuff you can't easily get elsewhere. Most of the time though it's not the greatest shopping experience and I used to go there a lot more than I do now.

OH YEAH! hard to move big stuff in a little car. If you buy under 4' it should fit shouldn't it? I remember crammin in a bunch of second hand chain link fence under my kids feet in my suburban... the rear cargo area was already full! haha Iv always had great customer service at the TSC in Sarnia. but it sure is hard to get the best knowledgeable staff with such a low pay grade. Its kinda like you either work there because you love this area and get paid crap, or your working there just to get a pay check. And you never know how your guna meet there... I met a felow PSO member there, I had a feeling like I knew who she was... I said hey... Your so n so aren't u... been friends ever since!

Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
always always get your wire at a feed store.....and the feed store that sells feed for big animals too, like horses and stuff. "real" fencing usually is rolled, and wired in the roll, not wrapped (in my experience) so you can actually feel the wire. the smaller the number for gauge the bigger the wire diameter (that works for needles too-small number = big ouchy needle...if you get a flu shot with a 16g it's gunna HURT compared to a 23g). and then you can also see if it's welded or knotted. you can also test it and see if you like it. yes, it's more expensive than a hardware store, but it will last longer. with that said....my pens in the loft of the barn are all with rolls from TSC, but special ordered in-12g welded 1"x1" wire (not the normal 16-18 g wire....don't even bother with 20!). it's a total PITA that they don't deliver....and the "order to store" thing is PAINFULLY slow...it was 6 weeks for it to come in. and THEN they sent me 3 emails telling me to come and get it after i had already picked it up, AND billed me twice for it. GAH! my feed store i went to, ordered 2 rolls of 2x4 crib fencing, 10 g, it was in 2 days later, delivered no charge to my barn, and put neatly in the corner for me....those rolls are 100+ pounds a piece, took 2 guys to carry them each....no complaints there. Will be fencing my garden with that next year, since i didn't get it done this year. but they were $$...240$ or something each roll.

Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
This is off the wire thread but i was in TSC the other day because i picked up some awesome sap buckets, lids and spiles on kijiji...and the guy i got them from said that he had just bought the door and hardware kit for a barrel stove on sale at TSC, so i went in to get one as well...almost half price...that weeks flyer item too...asked three people there...nada...no idea even what i was talking about...i know the product..I've been intending to get one and was just waiting for the sale...finally found one guy who knew what i was talking about but had no idea where they might be...at least he went to find out...there were 40 out back, buried under a bunch of other stuff...now, to build the stove...not a barrel, but a used oil tank...nice flat sides and heavier steel...and free...

I have an idea what your talking about... HAHAHA maple syrup equipment. Chasing the Dream built an incredible one, give him a pm maybe he can post it up here. I would totally move his post from PSO over but we cant... I do know and Im sure you do to, that with used maple syrup supplies you to be careful with lead solder.

Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
Al..yup...i think i read somewhere that the commercial producers can't use metal buckets anymore, at least the old ones, just for that reason...welding joints with silver solder is effective...takes a bit of skill but i learned the how to in my younger days...the lead issue is over played i think...yes, lead is worrisome but the leaching is so limited in the timespans and the temperature has an effect as well...i need to find out what the actual chemical process is

Re: Where can you buy decent welded wire?
we made our own.....bought a piece of stainless, and had one of my hubby's friends fold and crimp it. non-lead solder. it's AWESOME.
