The turkey Mums

Post by Killerbunny » Fri Jun 01, 2018 2:45 pm

Well Kim decided yesterday afternoon to introduce her lone baby to the others. I was worried about it because she had been so protective she didn't want it to go out. It's a couple of days younger too which is huge that first week. Well by the evening they all went into the same coop and settled together. Today they have been happily roaming about as a group, 4 Mums and 10 babies with the Mums making that lovely soft cooing noise. This afternoon I got the surprise of my life. I went down to the paddock to have coffee. I am always careful to give them their space and not stress them. Not sure why but they brought the babies over to me and I can only say "introduced them". I was quite gobsmacked. What lovely, clever girls.
Did I ever mention I really, really like turkeys!

That moment when you realize that you don’t own them...they own you.
Very sweet!

:-o
It's official, you have been accepted as one of the flock, and flock leader (the wellspring from which all goodies and treats flow) to boot! Amazing, even my friendliest turkeys have never brought their littles to me; they make them hide while Mom comes to beg. WOW! So cool.

Very cool indeed, I never had an opinion on turkeys one way or another, but KB's adventures with them made me see them in a completely new light.
