New to me babies!

Post by Penny » Sat May 19, 2018 3:39 pm

Just picked up these blue Ameraucana chicks. They are supposed to be 5-6 weeks old. 3 Are small, one medium size and ine huge one! I've made them a home in my tack room in a wire dog cage with a smaller box in the back. So far all 5 are huddled into the box and can't even be enticed out with mealworms. Are they supposed to do much at this stage? They are cute as can be! This is my first time with chicks not raised by a broody....any suggestions?

They probably have never seen mealworms lol. Give them some time they are very stressed. Give them water.....some vitamins in it if you have and just some chick starter. Let them feel comfortable in their new digs. They will come out. Is it warm enough where they are? Is there a heat lamp? That will help as well.. They look cute. Good luck with them. :stars:

Yes if they've never had treats they take a long time to even try it but they soon learn. They are frightened in a new area but they will soon come out and look around. Give them a couple days.
