Not so patiently waiting

Post by Happy » Thu May 10, 2018 10:44 am

Little has been on 9 eggs and this morning was the start of day 22. She hopped off the nest to run outside to poop this morning which surprised me so I peeked at her eggs and no pips at all. I'm getting worried! I've thought a couple of times that she may have too many eggs to properly cover as I've seen her settle back on her nest with a stray egg outside of her wing. But everytime I candled they were all viable. Haven't candled since day 15 though. I'm not liking the look of Little the past couple of days. She's been sitting for a month and her colouring looks green and she's had very runny poops the past few days. Uggg. Something needs to happen soon!

Hold off. I had a bunch hatch at 24 days. Also have had them at 19 days.

And if I am really wondering, I will give them a gentle shake near my ear. If they slosh, they are kaput. Tiny almost thump says there is a chick in there.

G'luck.

Well hopefully shes ok, I had one silkie sit and sit and sit, wouldn't even get off the nest to poop. Finally I gave her some chicks and that improved her whole look. Sitting is hard on them.

Thanks @kenya
No number of chicks is worth trading Little for. Hopefully the cool evenings have just delayed things. Taking her out some scrambled egg and chopped up cabbage now. I've probably not spoiled her as much as I normally do when she's sitting so feeling guilty now lol.

Still no chicks. Little seemed to be talking to her eggs tonight though.

Oh, that's hopeful! There must be chicks in there peeping, if she's bucking at them!

Well she stayed put this morning but leaned over for a drink and I saw a definite pip. Arrrgg. We're away all day tomorrow and I so wanted her to be done hatching before then. That's not looking promising. At least it seems something's progressing now. I'll never give her 9 eggs again. They are OEGB eggs so her size but she struggled with that many and I have to think that has something to do with this late hatch. I think 7 is her max.
