Finally some broodies

We'll I've been waiting all summer for any of my hens to go broody. So finally, 2 have decided to go broody just as the rest of the girls seem to be slowing down on the egg front!

Ah well, with luck I'll have enough eggs to throw under them and they stick it out. The one is my avatar, the silly pullet who disappeared 2 years ago and was feared eaten but who proudly one evening came out with 7 little darlings...the only female who is also broody! Guess it runs in the family!

Whoo hoo! Better late than never! If you DIDN'T want them to go broody, you'd have half a dozen growling at you :/
I have been actively discouraging my turkeys from setting, but if the one girl had a middle finger, I'd be seeing a lot of it. She's now discovered a cozy Muscovy nest, complete with brooding Muscovy, and has settled herself atop eggs (and duck) with a contented sigh. I give up lol

At what age do they normally go broody?

Varies a lot. I had one go broody at 8 months, several at first summer after hatching and one at 3 yrs!

Thanks KB. I just had one hogging the nesting box (and all the eggs underneath her were cold) so I wondered! Mine are only about 6 months old.....

We'll finally had a dozen eggs to put under the first Brodie but boy is she nasty!!!!

I have bloody peck marks on my hand from the adventure. Even with a towel covering my arm and hand she still managed to get several good bites out of me. Ah well, I know she'll protect them.

The countdown begins to fall fuzzy butts!

Well looks like the brooding was a bust. They were due this past Saturday but nothing except some missing eggs and quite the stink despite a very determined hen.
The other is still at it in a corner without anything! I'd put some under her but most of rest of the girls are going into moult so the egg supply is almost nil, ah well next year I guess!
Anyone got a couple chicks or pullets for sale?

I had the same results this year with my broody hen, so I can relate.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of chicks or pullets are you looking for?
