Re: Worried about my broody hen
Oh no! I have read about a heating pad but I would think keeping the proper temp would be a nitemare. If you can keep them warm prior to it being dark I would try sticking the eggs under her in a box in the dark and hope for the best! Or borrow an incubator if that's possible. Good luck.

An incandescent light bulb and a thermometer? Is she not acting broody anymore?

Re: Worried about my broody hen
Nope, she's staying out in the brooder area, scratching and pecking and not showing the least inclination towards going in to sit. :-(
I'm setting up my oven to take them in. Waiting for the temp to go down enough, because I put it on the lowest setting preheat, but it's still a bit too warm. I guess I need to think about a brooder too.

Re: Worried about my broody hen
Could also make a nest in a small cardboard box and put eggs and her in and put in a dark place overnight. With air holes of course
She had no option but to set on them
All this only because it is so close to hatch date

Re: Worried about my broody hen
Very good point, Colleen! I can just close her back up in the nest box. Brilliant! Off to do that now ...

@Happy , I'd be afraid to suffocate them.

Re: Worried about my broody hen
When my little brother was about 5 he snuck an egg out of the fridge and slept with it to try to hatch it lol. My mom found it under his pillow, uncracked the next morning.
