last chick of 2015

Post by henmyster » Wed Jan 13, 2016 4:54 pm

I had a hen pop out of the woodwork with a new chick Dec. 11th. It is running around with its mom and doing well. I put mom, chick and a helpful aunty in my brooder, box stall, that the cats cannot get into. Heat lamp in the corner to keep the water from freezing and just in case mom and aunty start perching before the ice princess gets big enough to join them. All three shun the heat lamp. It is too warm for them. A good broody can hatch an egg any time of year. This was the fourth setting for this hen for 2015 and she kept it a total surprise.
