Lost a chick

So Bianca had four chicks, all doing well last night, a week or so old. Let the bunch out this morning, and she was dragging something. It was a chick. Attached to a feather knot near her bum. Had entwined several feathers and its neck and sort of thing or strangled itself. I caught her and took it off and trimmed the offending knot off.

I have never heard of such a thing. Anyone else here?

Yes I often had this with the fluffy type hens, very common with the Cochins and some silkies as well. However never with clean legged hens like my Wyandotts or OEGs. If the hen has long or lots of feathers the chicks burrow in to get warm but accidentally wrap the feathers around their neck and if a piece of dirt sticks the ends of some feathers together, the chick gets hung.

No not here. I've had them get tangled in Cleavers though. I'll be keeping a closer eye on the fluffy ones this year! Sorry about the little guy :(
