New "Brooder Hen"
I have using light bulbs for heat in my brooder box.... expensive, bulbs don't seem to last long, fire hazard, so wanted a different heat source this year.
So I am in the process of finishing up building a new insulated brooder box (will post photos another day), chicks due to hatch next week, so today my new electric "brooder hens" arrived.
I got 2 from Amazon.ca, 12 inches by 12 inches, 20 Watts, $75 Canadian, not super cheap, but cheaper than the Brinsea’s Eco-Glow 20 brooder and the Premier1 Heating Plate, so I figured I would give them a try.

I'm very curious as well...looks like a nice setup and not a bad price...my concern is the 20w...living as I do, this would be appealing from an energy consumptive perspective but 20w is 20w..that all the heat one can expect...and thats not a lot...like i said, it has my interest..looking forward to followup

well if its run off of something like heat tape it will definitely get hot enough. the 11" heat tape I used in my hatcher is something like 12 watts a foot and gets really hot very fast, it needs to be run off of a thermostate so that it doesn't get to hot, but works incredibly well.
this looks awesome Jim! I'm guna have to get tinkering with the heat tape I have and see what I can come up with.

Jim, did you get this one? there seems to be another one that's a bit more expensive, can't quite figure out what is the difference?

Ya I am not sure about the only 20 Watts but will give it a try. Premier1 sells a similar larger plate, 16" x 24" that is 66 Watts I believe.
I have used the IR heating panels for reptiles before and they produce quite a lot of heat for the watts ans this thing is basically the same thing. So hoping it works well.
