she's fluffy on the bottom. the chicks will pip on the side and roll out and get up under her wings. she didn't crush the eggs the whole time they were under her, she won't smother the chicks now....and she will poof up her chest and they'll come up there with just their heads poking out of her feathers. it'll happen when it happens....so hard to be patient. go do something else ALL DAY. come back in the late evening and see if anything has happened by LISTENING and LOOKING from AFAR! LOL. Once they are hatched she'll get up and make a "chuck chuck chuck" noise encouraging them to come wandering a little bit with her. make sure you have some chick starter in a chick feeder or something with a very very low lip (margarine container lid or something) so the chicks can actually get to get the feed. mom will start teaching them how to scratch right away, i usually just put a feeder for mom with starter in it-she can eat out of the chick feeder just fine, and she'll teach them how to eat and drink and forage and by day 2 out of the shell they'll be running everywhere. LOL fingers crossed for a good hatch! oh, do NOT worry about

. not right now. as soon as she takes the chicks off the nest clean the whole thing out, and put in new bedding, thin so the chicks don't get lost in it. mom will leave the nest to
once she's got them hatched.

Like KB said, Noooo! Give it a few more days. How many eggs did you have her set?SandyM wrote:QR_BBPOST Well.... I'm waiting and NOTHING. I going to start cracking eggs soon!!

After a few more days if there's still nothin happening, you can do the egg float test instead of cracking them open. I can give you details on how to do it if it comes to that, but I'm ever hopeful that you'll be seeing little chicks very soon.
Feb 23, I believe. Count that as day 0 for the first bunch. More eggs were added the following day, right Sandy?Killerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST What date did she start to set?

Now is a good time to go by sound, you will hear them when/if they hatch! :) also, the hen will "talk" to them !
This is 24 hours after hatch....hard to keep the kids inside The two sets of eggs set day apart wouldn't really make much difference, the only problem would be if she had too many eggs to cover and in an effort to keep them all warm, they might have all cooled down too much.
Patience is a virtue, if it doesn't pan out, she will get fed up eventually, and you will have first experience under your belt.
