Re: Boy or Girl from the mailed eggs?
More of these. One that I had picked all along as a pullet has decided to be otherwise. The one brown with the black head and comb and a little gold fleck in its neck. Showing swords on the tail and the pointy hackle feathers. I probably wouldn't have bothered posting this, but shows the pointy hackle really well. Others much more experienced than I tell me this is one of the first real good signs o sex. Notice he doesn't have a big comb, which is probably why I didn't pick him as a roo before.

Re: Boy or Girl from the mailed eggs?
The points on the bottom of his neck can be misleading, because the pattern makes them look pointier than they actually are; but up near the top of his head, those look VERY pointy to me. I think he's going to get quite a bit more colour on him as he matures. I think I'm going to have to retire from the poultry gender guessing game, because I was 100% sure that was a girl!

"He" looks kind of androgynous, doesn't he? Not the usual "hawky" look to the face that you sometimes see when it's a boy, but can't ignore those those pointy hackle feathers. And then there's those saddle feathers starting ...

Sorry, the hackle feathers look rounded to me.
Are you just looking at the head feathers?

Re: Boy or Girl from the mailed eggs?
So me and the Windwalkingwoof have been diligently applying our extensive knowledge and trying to sex these chicks. Not doing so good. Three we picked all along as pullets are crowing. Gold penciled always picked as a girl hasn't crowed that I have seen yet, but just look at the pics. One we picked as a roo from day one and La-chicken picked as a pullet is a pullet, (the smaller lighter of the mottled). Klondike, the gold flecked neck is for sure a cockerel, we picked for a long time as a girl. The white splased one is a girl, we have at least been consistent on her and the blue headed one.
So the count now is five cockerels and three pullets. All but 2 seem to be transgendered. Not be official until all results are in. Judges decision is final. (Don't hire me or Windblowingwoof as judges.)
